I am sure you know:

At page 17 it explains some of the files that are going to modified. Most importantly the autogen files (relevant if you have ORBX FTX Global Base, or 3rd party modified autogen files), the terrain.cfg file, effects (important if you have PrecipitFX) and also default gauges.

I am not sure about the sun and moon textures at the moment.

Chris

if its tinkered with terrain.cfg youll need to put the black marble manager again then, and orbx so it puts the entries back ??

Im doing FRA-YYC today in the 772  we really shall see if they have fixed that autogen ctd which they denied for years..  We shall see what happens when the sim starts loading in the large amounts of autogen trees in some parts of canada which was always an issue but they said it never was

The only risk is that LM may have changed something in the autogen definitions in 4.1. Then you will not see that changes if you use the backed-up files from a previous version. The better way would be to merge the entries, but then again this may become very complicated.

That would be the safest way. The same also applies to FS Global.

I think that saving the ProgramData\LM/P3Dv4 and the AppData\Roaming\LM\P3Dv4 folders and copy the files back afterwards will help.

The same with the Effects , Gauges and Autogen folder. I will save my custom aircraft also.

If I copy them back I let them overwtite existing files.

Imho that will do the trick.

I do not think so that they have changed the ag defitions as the groundtextures are still the same since FSX. But I am not 100% sure.

Someone else knows this ?

Hello

Below is the list of the folders that are removed and updated during each of the component Installers

Install_ Client.msi  -  Licences, propdefs, Scaleform, ShadersHLSL, trinton

Install_ Content.msi  -  Scripts, redist, SimObjects, Weather, Scenarios, Ecosystem, Fonts, Autogen, Effects, gauges, Sound, Texture

Install_ Scenery.msi  -  Scenery

A Content Update will not touch any of your .cfg files.  Your Autogen files will in be overwriting during the Content update but in the case of FTX Orbx these Autogen files will be reconfigured back to Orbx use again by simply Launching the FTX Control Panel and waiting 10 \ 15 seconds

Also by launching the FTX control panel this will also check and verify your terrain.cfg and your scenery.cfg,  even if you delete these files it will Insert the Orbx entries back in again when the Control panel is launched.  Note: If you delete these 2 files You need to Launch Prepar3D first and shut it down before you launch the FTX control Panel.

The Content update will only remove default Prepar3D files and default Prepar3D files that have been modified by your Add On's,  A lot of Add On's Install extra files and these wont be touched.

So i guess if you have custom Aircraft files that you know have modified default files you may have to run the aircraft Installer again

I'm not sure its a great Idea to copy and paste your old Content files \ folders  back into the new Content updated files \ folders,  Maybe it will be ok I don't know though,  Its not something i would do

I like a clean slate,  Update and if in doubt run the Aircraft Installer again
