RXP GTN 750/650 Touch no add-on menu (solution)

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am totally confused:

I installed RXP v2 selecting both P3DV3 and V4 (both installed on my PC).

P3DV3 is in D:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3 (32 bits)

P3DV4 is in D:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 (64 bits)

RXP works perfectly with P3DV4 (addons menu appearing), not with V3 (no addons menu).

I checked the add-on.xml file in D:\Users\...\Documents\Prepar3D v3 Add-ons\Reality XP GNS. It contains:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="AddOnXml" version="3,3" id="add-on">
    <AddOn.Name>Reality XP GNS V2</AddOn.Name>
    <AddOn.Description>Legendary Gauges Redefined</AddOn.Description>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>DLL</Category>
        <Name>Reality XP GNS V2 Menu</Name>
        <Path>C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\GNS Simulation\FltSim\32\rxpGNS2_menu.dll</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
    <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>Gauges</Category>
        <Name>Reality XP GNS V2 Gauge</Name>
        <Path>C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\GNS Simulation\FltSim\32</Path>
    </AddOn.Component>
</SimBase.Document>

The C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\GNS Simulation\FltSim\32 directory contains those files:

add-on.xml

rxpGNS2.dll

rxpGNS2_menu.dll

rxpSimCon32.dll

=> any idea? thx for your help!

Hi, it seems everything is in order.

One probable cause could be a problem with your P3D3 simconnect installation, in which case, this would be reflected in the log files.

You might want to review the content of the 'rxp' log files (see User's Manual for files/paths).

I tried and there are error messages about gauges, both GMA340 and GTX330:

[error.6]

Hi, these are neither rxp log files nor rxp gauges. Did you find any rxpGTN_menu.dll.log file?

Found a rxpGNS2_menu.dll.log file

contains one single line : 18/01/13 08:54:21.641 21636 -    ] # rxpGNS2_menu.dll version 2.0.6.0

and a rxpGnsSim.dll.log file

containing 4 lines:

18/01/13 08:52:20.754 22180 -    ] # rxpGnsSim64.dll version 2.3.8.0
18/01/13 08:52:20.753 22180 INFO ]
18/01/13 08:52:27.771 22464 INFO ]
18/01/13 08:52:28.271 22444 INFO ]

I suspect that this reference to rxpGnsSim64.dll relates to P3DV4.? Is there one and only one single log file shared by P3DV3 and V4?

Hi, there is a single log file for both, usually you won't run both at the same time anyhow. The log files seem correct though.

However, the 'menu' log file is shared with both. Something to try out: delete the log files, start p3d and see if any of these gets created. Then we'll see the content.

Also, can you cross check the p3d add-ons menu/options do list the RXP product and it is enabled?

I did it (deleting the 4 log giles and relaunching P3DV3) . This recreated 2 log files:

1) rxpGNS2_menu.dll

18/01/14 10:27:29.849 01952 -    ] # rxpGNS2_menu.dll version 2.0.6.0

2) the P3D log file ContentErrorLog : does not seem to contain anything relating to RXP...

Strange isn't it?

Ok, to recap with all the latest information:

  1. files installed in correct path.
  2. add-on.xml referencing the files in their location.
  3. add-on is enabled, and loaded ok (rxpGNS_menu.dll.log gets created).
  4. everything works fine in P3D4.1
  5. the menu is not displaying in P3D3.x

In fact, I've forgotten but what is the Prepar3d.exe file version number? (right click | properties/details | version)

  1. files installed in correct path. -> think so
  2. add-on.xml referencing the files in their location -> confirmed, both C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\GNS Simulation\FltSim\32\rxpGNS2_menu.dll and C:\Program Files (x86)\Reality XP\GNS Simulation\FltSim\32
  3. add-on is enabled, and loaded ok (rxpGNS_menu.dll.log gets created). -> add-on enabled confirmed ; no idea about loading being ok or not
  4. everything works fine in P3D4.1  -> confirmed, file version is 4.1.7.22841
  5. the menu is not displaying in P3D3.x -> confirmed
  6. In fact, I've forgotten but what is the Prepar3d.exe file version number? (right click | properties/details | version) -> 3.4.22.19868

Well, everything seems in order.

The add-on is loaded and started, doesn't report any error in the log files, therefore, it seems when the add-on menu DLL is telling simConnect to create a menu, simConnect doesn't comply, and doesn't report an error back to the RXP add-on DLL ?!?!

Either there is a bug in your SimConnect installation in P3D3, or there is a 3rd party add-on interfering somehow, or are you sure the Windows firewall (or any 3rd party FW) is not blocking P3D3?
