Visibility

Recommended Posts

Anyone else experienced low visibility lately in P3Dv4(.1)?

I've noticed very poor visibility on my last couple of flights and below is an example what it looked like yesterday for example when I was approaching LGKR.

After playing around with the visibility settings both in ASP4 as well as P3D a bit to no avail I tried moving to my home area Scandinavia since I didn't see this issue a couple of days ago when I was flying there. The result was the visibility was back to normal so this indeed seems to at least somehow be related to your location.

Being a member if the HiFi beta team I know ASP4 has some features where it will base visibility on a number of factors which might play a role in all this. I asked about the same thing over at HiFi but wanted to ask in here a well for a bigger audience and to find out if I'm alone seeing this which would indicate something got screwed up in my installation or if it's a common issue lots of people are seeing.

Here's the screenshot and as seen I was at FL100 and the visibility reported by ASP4 was 10+ SM and yet I could hardly make out the island just below me on the left hand side which doesn't seem right to me with 10+ SM visibility reported.

At this moment Europe has more haze because of Ophelia.

Looks like a very realistic haze layer to me.

Do you think that is simulated in our virtual world?

Sure, nothing wrong with the quality of the haze layer.

Just wondering if it should really be there when the visibility is reported to be 10+ SM?

10+SM can be 11nm or 30nm. They are reporting the restriction to visibility with the SM. I think you are seeing the lower end of the scale and the slant vision is realistically reduced. Most people are amazed at how restrictive VFR can be. Try the 3 mile minimum visibility and see how little you can see compared to what you are used to.

Yeah, maybe you're right what's seen in the screenshot is perfectly normal and realistic.

Just feels a bit odd having such low visibility in the sim when you at the same time have the information shown by ASP4 also seen in the screenshot indicating a clear day with high pressure and zero precipitation.

Yeah, had the same issue... haze even when there shouldn't have been.  Uncheck Volumetric Fog in P3D and see how that works for you.

What weather engine are you using and what is your visibility settings with volumetric fog disabled in P3D?

VIS is reported on ground i think. Equipment down the runway

IT is only important relative to RVR i believe.

There is horizontal and vertical VIS.

I am also seeing much more prevalent hazing in ASP4 since the latest update.  On the changelog, they mention that people asked for more haze and by gosh they've given it to us!

With manual weather settings my vis is still unlimited unless I set it lower.

That would explain why my default FSX:SE ATIS sometimes gives several miles vis with 100 foot overcast :cool:and IFR only. I know this is the P3D forum, but I felt this was of some relevance.
