CTD 4.1

Recommended Posts

I kept getting a CTD for the first time in a while last night flying from CYYZ (flytampa) to KORD.  The CTD would be before the plane would load on the ground at the gate.  This was a night flight with FSL320.  I have ORBX (not Vector) running and Black marble vector.  The crash didn't happen when picking a day/dusk flight.  Only night.

According to the AVSIM CTD Guide, the faulting module, AI_Player.dll relates to something amiss with AI.  Many of the AI programs made for FS9 and earlier, but compatible with FSX and P3DV3 and earlier, are not compatible with P3Dv4 because of the 64 bit architecture.  I use MyTraffic6 with V4 and have had no problems but I had to remove some incompatible aircraft made for FS9 and disable MyTrafficMil.bgl.  The crash could be caused by an AI program or by many commercial addon programs.  Many developers add static AI in their airport scenery which may not be compatible.  Any AI program that has flight plans but no aircraft might cause this.  AI is one of the last things to load before your aircraft is sitting at an airport ready to takeoff.  I doubt Orbx comes into play as Toronto is not in any of the scenery as far as I know.  It should not be loading if the scenery is disabled in the scenery.cfg.  It must be something wrong with FlyTampa's Toronto.  Is it V4.1 compatible?

Of course, it may not be the AI causing the crash.  The ai_player.dll module may have been loading when the crash occurred making the ai_player.dll module the faulting module.

If you start up in Windowed Mode, you could try to see what is loading at the time of the crash.  This might give you a clue as to the scenery that is causing the crash.  How do I do that you might ask?  Here's how.  I have a simplified way if you are using Windows 10:

  • Go to your search bar and type 'resmon' and look up and right click (not left click) on resmon and select Run as Administrator.
  • Start up P3D and you will see under CPU that Prepar3D.exe has started.  Check the box next to P3D.
  • Click on Disk in the Monitor as this will be the window you will be monitoring.  The lastest entries are at the bottom of the Disk Monitoring window.  Not the entries at the top of the section showing what's loading so you will have to scroll down constantly to watch what is going on or what for the crash and follow the step below.
  • Now you will see only P3D stuff loading.   When the crash occurs, immediately click on Monitor in the Menu and click on Stop Monitoring. Look to see that the last entries are stating.  Do not shutdown P3D as it will remove the filter.

If that does not work, then you might want to try using the procedure I set up in the AVSIM CTD Guide, page 16.  That will continue to run even after the crash and the log will still be there.

T must be something with fly Tampa and UTL.  This ctd only happens at cyyz and only at night.  Cyyz should be compatible.  I also noticed that this happens when flying out of cyyz. I was able to fly into that airport at night with no problem.

CYYZ was updated in June to be compatible with P3DV4.  Hard to understand why the CTD's only happen at night when flying into the airport.  Still suspect high settings.

CTD no more , after a couple of changes. P3D V4 with 100% air traffic and on Options checked #2 POE and #4 SSSS, also Resolution 1280X1024X32. I saved a position on first flight after changes and I load it at the start (DC6 is also the default plane on start) and then I proced to make/load a flight plan. Hope it helps (I intended to copy the Aircraft config from FSX to P3D V4 but I cannot remember if I did or not).

Thanks for your help in getting the original poster's issue fixed!  That's probably what he forgot to do, copy the aircraft config from FSX to P3DV4.
