VSync now mandatory?

Recommended Posts

I have not used VSync much since I moved from FSX to P3Dv2 because I've never observed so-called tearing effects. But now since I updated from P3Dv 4.0 to v4.1 (client and content) I have strong tearing effects when in spot-view. Unfortunately, also Win 10 (Fall Creator) and video driver have been updated so I cannot say what really happened. I am not complaining, as I get a decent running P3D with VSync on. But I would like to understand why suddenly VSync became necessary on my set-up.

Are you sure the tearing is related to VSync?

You'll only see tearing when the sim can generate more FPS than your refresh rate can handle. Hence the need for VSync. If you're only seeing tearing now, it means your recent updates have meant you gained a performance boost.

I am not really sure if it is "tearing" but I have some annoying graphical glitches since my updates which disappear when I activate VSync.

That's what vSynch is for, screen tearing.
