Shame there still not doing pop ups as that would have been another good step forward.

Not to confirm or deny anything but that is not what we stated for the V4 version.

AS is looking into it is all I can say for now...

Well I did, didn‘t I? I go by a different name in the AS forum but if you want to know who I am just look up the project advisor in the AS Airbus/CRJ manual. ;)

I would like to thank everybody here sofar for a nice topic about the two products. It has not been locked yet and both sides get a good representation. I wish all topics could be like this

Cheers, Frank

My apologies. I didn't know your credentials, and the opposing post was stated with a similar amount of 'authority', so I didn't know who to believe! Anyway, the record is straight now!

No problem, you could not have known. Maybe I should put my affiliation in my sig in the future.

I'll be interested to see how the features look upon release.

I'll be interested in this and also in the new soundset and "atmospheric" upgrades (event timings during the power-up sequence, etc.)  Have been thinking more about the side-by-side videos that Alan (Chock) Bradbury linked above, and realized that a lot of what I was responding to in the FSL bus was the ambiance.  If Aerosoft is able to close that gap in their v4 offering, the comparison for me (please note again - for me!) would be pretty close.  As before, I'm acknowledging (as Mathijis did over on the AS forums) all the merits of the FSL bus, and trying to choose my bus.

The adventure continues...

Totally! When it's ready, maybe AS could give us a pre-release teaser video of the flight deck with the new soundset.

Firstly, I love Aerosoft and I have a great deal of respect for Mathijs.  He's a stalwart of this fine hobby of ours. But Aerosoft could improve the whole vibe and maturity level of their forum by removing the silly downvoting feature.

....and did you know, it is a blanket offence to downvote any moderator or staff member there?  Even if their post was rude or unhelpful (which they can be on occasion), downvoting any moderator or staff member there will get you a formal warning. In my view, respect is earned and no-one should be above feedback, even if that feedback is justifiably critical.

Logic suggests that if they don't allow downvoting of any staff member, they should remove the ability to downvote those staff members. But they don't - they just address the 'problem' after the act, with a petty formal warning.

As I said, I do like AS and Mathijs but that forum has a very immature vibe and some of the moderators there have an unwarranted sense of superiority, often speaking unnecessarily rudely to paying customers... (but don't downvote 'em!!).

I see this topic getting closed in an hurry and that would be a shame.

I will reply once here to the last two posts just to put out an opinion for the AS side of things and hope that the moderators here allow me to, and that the topic will continue without any follow ups in this direction.

The downvoting feature in the AS forums does as much good as it does bad. It is not ideal but it has it‘s uses. We do not warn people just for downvoting a moderator. We look at it case by case. If we see that someone is just randomly downvoting every post of someone else he will get an PM and if he continues doing so he will get an warning. This is fair in my eyes.

In the interest of letting a topic run it‘s course we frequently ask people to stop discussing a certain „feature“ if we feel it has been answered and as an ultima ratio we will delete follow ups. The avsim approach is closing it all together. Both have it‘s merits.

In the end I see avsim and the AS forums as same same. If you play nice you will have zero problems in both forums. If you do not play nice both forums have their own way of dealing with that. Sounds arrogant? Sure, but that is the way it is with a member group ranging from 5 year olds to unlimited.

Now back to the topic at hand please.

AS is ofcourse responding to the other Airbus products that are now available on the market. In the past we had a virtual monopoly but now there is a superb product from FSLabs. To say it in Trump‘s words; It is fantastic, just wonderful! And I mean it. I have the highest respect for what they did and I am glad, being an RW airbus pilot, that we now have a product that is as indepth as can be. And it‘s makes me happy to know that they are building on this even futher.

The AS Airbus must and will up it‘s game but it is really meant for a different audience in the end. If you picture the FSLabs and AS target group as a circle then those two circles overlap a bit. For people that are in this overlapping area both products will do the job. And this is what this topic here is all about.

I hope the moderators will allow this topic to continue and I will glady be here to answer questions, concerning the AS v4 bus, if need be.

Thanks

Great post. Thanks for the insight coming from someone close to the AS project.

In relation to Airbus, I suspect Boeing might disagree with you on that after those recent Bombardier shenanigans

Alan, that's a whole other topic that would definitely result in this thread getting locked!

Probably, but there's nothing wrong with having a bit of a laugh is there?

I think it's fairly obvious that the new AS 'Bus is gonna suit most people, even the fairly hardcore types and it's good that they are doing that because it pushes FSL to up their game as well in order to differentiate their super-duper-mega-hardcore one from another which is upping the ante.

And if anyone does want a Toys R Us style A320, Aerosoft do actually make one of those too, in Ready For Take Off, so they've got both ends of the spectrum covered. Wonder if they'll be tempted to put that well endowed FO from the RFTO A320 in their new more serious 'Bus? She's the reason it has a sidestick controller, otherwise it'd be in a permanent nosedive.

Couldn't agree more. It gets so much abuse. I have a decent reputation there (around 250ish) but all it takes is a badly worded post and people will mash the downvote button. I just don't understand the logic behind having it. Dave has also asked for it to be removed but to no avail.

Best regards,

Interesting.  She did pretty well but, I was thinking about how much time they'd have to spend familiarizing her with the autopilot, levers and CDU.  You have to have enough fuel for that.  Joe being able to physically see what she was doing might also have helped and the fact that the airplane was already in a hold helped as well.  At the end of the day, though, she *did* do it which was nice to see.  On the bright side, perhaps, a flight simmer familiar with the airplane should be able to get it all done with little training time spent and fewer mistakes.  They might also know how to dial in 121.5 to get in contact with ATC.

As a fan of both the A320 and B737, I was thinking about how much harder it would be if it was a 737...more switches, some not completely necessary to the task at hand, a more confusing AP...more setup time, more opportunities to mess something up and more time required for training.  To me, more risky.
