Clouds directional lighting

Recommended Posts

I have some trouble getting a reasonable setting for my cloud lighting together.
The problem is: If I leave P3Ds directional cloud lighting active (=PTA checkbox unticked) some cloud groups start shining much too bright while clouds in other areas seem to be lighted 'normally'.

If I deactivate P3Ds directional cloud lighting by ticking that ceckbox in PTA all clouds light scattering settings in PTA won´t have an effect anymore. If that 'Turn off clouds directional lighting' checkbox is ticked I can change all 'Clouds light scattering' to min or max... it just doesn´t change anything anymore. I don´t know if that´s a bug or an undocumented feature.
I just don´t know how to get a setting together that looks like I want it to. I can choose between a setting that has a mixture of dark and bright glowing clouds when directional cloud lighting activated or with kind of 'dead' looking clouds because that clouds light scattering doesn´t work.
Maybe somebody has any suggestion...?

Ok... well then let me ask more punctual:
Why is it that after ticking that 'Turn off clouds directional lighting' checkbox the clouds light scattering feature has absolutely no effect anymore? I can set its values to min or max... It just doesn´t make any visual change anymore.

I modified the cloud directional lighting options for the PTAbsolute preset in accordance with the post below (even though these instructions are meant for a different preset altogether). I haven't had time to test the results extensively, but it seems to work. Maybe it'll work for your preset.

When you untick Cloud Directional Lighting it will use the P3Dv4.1 version of that.

If you tick it you can modify according to the Flightbeam post to achieve almost the same as with unticked.

For V4.1 the Cloud Directional Lighting has been improved already.

But you can try and make a comparison ( before - after )

I know what the intention of that new PTA checkbox is but. My question is why ticking that checkbox obviously deactivates the PTA 'clouds light scattering' completely no matter what values you apply. That behavior is not documented anywhere so I guess that might be a bug...

Perhaps Matt can reply to this

After many extensive flight hours I noticed that the bright parts of the clouds are usually in the lower part and not quite in the direction of the sunlight rays, i.e., it seems to be somewhat misaligned. Can it be fixed?

The checkbox mentioned by the topic starter has been removed from the last version of PTA? Is there any improvement in this regard by using TomatoShade?

Thanks.
