Based on the screenshots, I wouldn't even download if it was made available for free.

It's really frustrating that no major developer has taken MMUN on.

As the title says.. badly needed scenery for V4.

10 euros..

Any thoughts ?

Well, based upon my visit there in August, it certainly resembles the airport, particularly the taxiway that crosses the main road separating the two runways. But execution-wise, and as others have stated, it sure is ugly.

But I guess for 10 euros...

Apparently some bigger group was working on it and ADX posted a preview shot, but the latest word on the the better version being worked on is that they are halting development until the renovations are complete at the real airport.

I agree, I’m surprised that a big name hasn’t already completed a newer version.

A few days ago I emailed David King and asked if his MMUN scenery was compatible with P3D v4. He was nice enough to email me a link to download the package to see how it performed. So yesterday, I installed it and was quite disappointed in several areas. First, performance. In a word, terrible. For comparison's sake, with FSDT LAX or LAS I get in the low 20's for frame rate and smooth running. With MMUN, my frame rate was between 5 and 10 and quite jerky. I have tried a few video driver setting modifications but no increase in frames. Secondly, visual quality. Also an issue. We have a timeshare in Cancun so I am very familar with the beach hotel layouts. Even at an altitude of 1,000 feet the photoscenery looked blurry (I use Megascenery so I am familiar with some of the limitations of photoscenery but this is in a different dimension). I sent Dave an email listing the issues and told him if he wanted to recompile the bgls, etc with the P3D SDK, I would be happy to work with him to see if we could make this truly P3D compliant. I have a feeling that there is some FS9 code in the background, and as we know, v4 doesn't support FS9 code anymore according to the P3D website. There must be some coding issues in the background since when one starts a MMUN scenario, P3D stalls at 81% loading for several minutes and finally continues on (albeit slowly) to 100% load. There are also a number of minor visual problems with textures and mesh.

I have tried both the Ultimax (2016) and AMS version (2012) and like the AMS version better, although it is a bit dated. One issue I have with both of these (Ultimax and AMS) is that the IFR approaches in the default GPS do not all show up (even though both runways are shown). The other problem (with the AMS version) is the taxi bridge from the left runway to the right -- there is a large vertical "cliff" and makes the taxi very unreal. There are also several visual "glitches" around the airport. Performance on both the AMS and Ultimax is okay, nothing spectacular.

If Dave gets back to me and will work on these issues for P3D, I'll let everybody know here! And I agree with the above posters that not having MMUN is a major issue.

Hope this helps.

P.

Hi there Im David Kings, and to all of you are saying that my cancun scenery its ugly, why dont you make your own and shut your mouth up, in the first place I not a scenery developer company I am just an FSX user that learned how to make sceneries just for fun, I have about 2 years learning how to make this sceneries from scratch, i did not study for this, everything I know about making sceneries I learned from test and error, forums and youtube videos and I make them as a hobby then i decided to post them to sim market for a very low price because you can not imagine the time this sceneries take to develop plus the learning curve so if you dont like it dont dowload it an stick to default scenery. I made this scenery because there is non all over the internet and yes the pictures shown on sim market are taken from FSX and not from Prepar3D, if you are to corncern about this scenery, maybe you would like to help me test it and maybe develop it also, let me know, you can write me an email to davidkingsgaming@yahoo.com , I'll leave a link below for you to download the scenery, about the FPS performance I get 60 to 75 all over the scenery, my system its: CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.00GHz  Skylake, RAM: 16.0GB Dual-Channel, Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. Z170MX-Gaming 5, Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1

Tropicalsim has a fs9/fsx version but never updated. A closed studio had one Aviation Multimedia studio (ams) mmun they also did Madagascar but closed before really finishing or updating. Unfortunate!

I have been following that as well - wish there was more information out there. I have been to the area almost 20 times in the past decade or so, and I know the area very well. This is a nice attempt, and for $10, some may find it helpful. Still, I agree with all of the comments here to some degree. AMS was the best, but they closed up shop. They still never managed to get the Hotel Zone and the lagoon right. Isla Mujeres has always been a cluster - even the T2G version is severely lacking (glad King didn't forget Isla). Approaches were all screwed up in the AMS version. No one has even touched areas to the south. There are so many beachfront properties that need to be modeled and Playa Del Carmen and Puerto Morelos aren't really represented in any vanilla sim.

The problem with waiting until construction is done is it will never be done. The airport has been under construction since Wilma. They should just move forward.

  • Wilma shut down T1
  • They added T3
  • They added the new runway
  • They added gates to T3 (not in this scenery)
  • They moved the FBO to the area east of T3 (also not in this scenery)

That's about 12 years of incremental development on the airport. I'd rather see the scenery project complete now. I'll pay for updates when they finish construction (which they never will).

This area is low hanging fruit for a major developer like FlyTampa or LatinVFR. Many sites list Cancun as the top international destination for Americans and I'm sure it is right up there with Canadians. It is also becoming very popular with Europeans with widebodies from many European carriers servicing the airport. It is time to get this one done. My wallet is ready to go. Name the price.

Thanks for your work King. It is a lot better than I could do. If I could do better, I would have done it a long time ago.
