ATC-Chatter available from Stick and Rudder Studios

Recommended Posts

I cleared the path under the sound tab in the P2A configuration and it is working now. I followed what I was told to do in the X-atc-chatter demo video. Why does it work for some and not others. I am happy it's working now. Dave needs to know about this. Thanks for your help

Dave, Do I need to update the documentation in X-ATC-Chatter? I still have the 32 bit version of Pilot2ATC installed and I know the X-ATC-Chatter instructions and videos are right for that. Maybe things are different for the 64 bit version.

The setup should be the same for the x64 version.  I suspect the problem was that the entered Root Folder had a typo.  That field should only be used if the files are not stored in the recommended location and it should point to the folder that contains the required "Controllers" folder.

This problem now solved:

Using FSX DVD version on Windows 10

I too  have installed X_ATC_Chatter sound files in P2A but can hear no chatter.

In config sounds, controller folders button clicked. Root folder is C:\Pilot2ATC_2018_x64\Sounds. Pause between file playback checked at a figure of 20. Play chatter checked.

Folder heirarchy is C:\Pilot2ATC_2018_x64\Sounds\ATC_Chatter\Europe\Controllers\ with folders App, Clr, Controllers, CTR, Dep, Dep_Gnd, Dep_Twr, Dep_Uni, Dest_Gnd, Dest_Twr and Dest_Uni.

Frequencies are active and the Comms radio up volume button has been pressed.

P2A connected. Frequencies active. Power button P2A green.

Here is the log:

Please ignore the last post. I was looking around the radio stack in P2A, clicked from Com 1 to Com 2 and back again,  and suddenly Chatter started coming through!

Works fine for me in P2A, with no path under sounds tab.

Mark,

Have you had recent reports of the chatter disappearing - as reported above in pilot2ATC?   I love the immersion of the chatter and now flying without it is not that enjoyable.  Recently I switched regions from the United States - to Europe over the Atlantic on a flight and have completely lost all the chatter.  I have tired everything listed above and cannot get the chatter to return.  Any ideas of what else I can do.  Appreciate any help.  Thanks.

Did you try to switch regions over the Atlantic in mid-flight? To the best of my knowledge this is how you change to a different region.

  1. Shut Down Pilot2ATC
  2. Remove the Controllers directory from the Pilot2ATC Sounds\ATC_Chatter folder
  3. Copy the X-ATC-Chatter Regions\Europe\Controllers directory to the Pilot2ATC Sounds\ATC_Chatter folder
  4. Start Pilot2ATC

If this is what you did to switch from U.S. to Europe and you are now loosing chatter playback randomly this could be an issue for Pilot2ATC. I also have never done any transatlantic flights but I if I recall the pilot is out of range of most of the AM ATC facilities. Dave might be able to shed some light on how this works when you are over the Ocean.

Mark,

Thanks so much for responding to my post.  Dave was nice enough to allow me to reset my P2ATC thinking that I messed something up within it.  Unfortunately and Fortunately it did not fix the X-ATC-Chatter.  So I dug deeper and retraced my steps.  What I realized I did was download the new version of ATC_Chatter (I use my MacBook to download files) and when it unzips the files it leaves a weird copy of each file that are 4KB in size.  I did not delete these files as I did when I dowloaded the first version.  Since these files were listed in folders first - P2ATC was trying to play these files instead of the correct files.  Once I deleted them all was again perfect.

If you ever need an advocate for your product please don't hesitate to ask.  Pilot2ATC along with X-ATC-Chatter has completely changed the immersion level of flightsiming for me.

I love P2ATC, I use it every day. The product is amzing in the intelligence of its ATC control - I have never seen, or heard, anything like it!

I bought ATC chatter too, but I am running P2ATC on a networked PC.  ATC Chatter does not work in this configuration - no sound at all. I can load it on my XP PC, but then P2ATC has no control and it is bedlam.

Any idea how to make this work over a network?

kind regards,

trev

To work with P2A, you only install the ATC Chatter files on the same PC as P2A, according to the instructions in the P2A User's Guide, then set it up in the P2A Config.

The files are played by P2A through the same output device (Speakers or Headset) as the P2A controllers.

Thanks for the quick reply Dave!

I had tried installing ACT Chatter on the P2A machine, heard nothing at all. So I installed the updated version - works perfectly!  It's an awesome add on to P2A, completely confused my friends watching (and listening) because the chat is so real. Add the superb AI in P2A and it is as real as it gets - Great!

I think all you need to do is increase the volume on the radio in Pilot2ATC. Take a look at the post Jon_H did above:

https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/523090-x-atc-chatter-available-from-stick-and-rudder-studios/?do=findComment&comment=3754061

I'm also experiencing the problem with chatter sounds being much too quiet. I've installed your chatter files into P2A. I can hear them, but as soon as I start my engines in X-Plane I can only hear the synthetic ATC voices from P2A but not the chatter sounds. Sorry but I don't understand what you meant with "increase the volume on the radio in Pilot 2 ATC". I can only find volume controls for the individual ATC voices (that doesn't do anything with background sounds) , and additionally a volume control on the "Sound" tab, but that would only be useful if I would use a single chatter sound file. This volume control has no effect if I use the "Controller Folders" option on this tab.

The only (uncomfortable) solution I found is to make X-Plane much quiter (using x-plane sound settings or windows sound mixer), lower the volumes of all synthetic ATC voices from pilot2atc to around 10%, and turn up the vloume on my external Amplifier. Of course it would be better if I could raise the volume of the ATC Chatter instead of lowering the volume of everything else.

When you click on the Com Standby frequency a window opens where you can change the frequency.  In that window, there are 3 Volume buttons: Up, Down and Mute.  These control the ATC Chatter volume.
