F-117 Nighthawk

Recommended Posts

I just read Brian Fletcher's interesting review of the F-117 Nighthawk, and am wondering if this will work with Radar Contact, or if the aircraft is so accurately modelled that ATC is unable to track you.Stealthily yours,Mike

Real F-117's have some sort of reflectors applied when flying in domestic airways so they can be tracked. Tony

They run around with a transponder on like everyone else. Even with it off, ATC can track them.It helps if the controller is looking for them or knows their basic positon. Thats true though of any aircraft running without a transonder. However, if they did not want to be seen, alot of being stealthy is in how the pilot navigates around known radar sites and his positioning relative to the radar. And if that fails, they can always call Anti radar strikes and take out the radar. In Bagdad the enemy learned quickly if they turned on their radars they got killed so they simply turned them off. So being stealthy didnt matter anyways cause there was not anyone running their radars. As for the F-117, I bought it a long time ago from FSX and its a very nice plane with great electronics and displays. A real bargain at less than 20 dollars.

the radar signature is not invisible, and if you know it is out there, you can find it. the problem for the enemy is, they dont know what to look for

It has been reported that when changing radio frequencies with add-ons such as FSnav, the radio does not behave as expected. This has been corrected and a replacement gauge file can be downloaded here. http://www.fs2x.com/NP45352515F117/F117A_r...ment_radios.zip Back-up the original file, f117 radios.xml You do not need a customer password and the radio will work with the existing bitmap files. You may also notice that the controls are a little more responsive relative to speed of readout change. The existing radio works fine in the aircraft, but this replacement adds the ability to change frequencies in other third party add-ons. Not all add-ons have been tested. I pass this on freely as it may not work in all other third party add-ons, and should be considered as a beta file. However, tests show that there should be benefits from using this replacement. Installation is simple and instructions are given in the text file in the zip file downloaded cheers, nick

Thanks for all the information about the F117 - it sounds like a fascinating product at a reasonable price. The replacement radio gauge file may well prove useful with addons like Radar Contact, which does change radio frequencies for you. Thanks againMike

I bought this plane quite a while ago too when V2 came out. Well worth the money for anyone who flies military aircraft. http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...s/Mullins01.jpg"A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting." - The DoctorDon MullinsNiceville, FL.

I bought it yesterday and have been flying it ever since. Ther are some really nice touches, great gauges and lots of information for the pilot. The 'smoke' effect is really impressive, and gives the appearance of hot air behind the engines.Mike

I have it too, this is THE BEST F117 available for FS, it beats the other two payware offers hands down!
