Just Flight Arrow/Turbo Arrow install?

Recommended Posts

I wonder if anyone's gotten either the 530 or 430 working in Just Flight's Arrows?  These planes come with F1 integration and in FSX with the legacy 530 it was a fairly simple matter of substituting the RXP entries for the F1, setting up the config files and so forth.  I've now installed the Turbo Arrow in P3Dv4 and am trying to get the 530 in.  The process seemed to go well.  I had no trouble sub-ing the 530 into the panel and all knobs and buttons appear to be working.  What's not working is getting the unit to drive the CDI.  I've tried every option I'm aware of but the needles remain stubbornly dead.

Amusingly, I can link the OBS and it will change course on the CDI.  Wildly unrealistic of course, but odd that this would work, but I can't get the needles to respond.

So even when using the rxp ini to tell the gps to drive the hsi and or vor needles it won't work?

Correct.  I've tried enabling some or all of the following, starting with just LinkVOR set to true and then just about every combination.  The only one that seems to do anything is LinkObs, which I don't really want, of course.

; connects GPS to HSI if true.
LinkHsi = true
; connects GPS to HSI course if true.
LinkCrs = true
; connects HSI OBS to GPS if true.
LinkObs = true
; connects GPS to VOR if true.
LinkVor = true

Master device = true for the 530?

Yes, but a good question.  I hadn't thought about that - but it is set.

I'd guess when configured for the other third party gauge, the Arrow gauges and model might have been specifically coded to take their input from the third party, instead of the default FltSim variables?

Something to try to cross-check: just use the Arrow normal/regular configuration, then add the GNS as a popup with the assistant, and check the needles react.

I'll give that a try later today.

The more I thought about this the more I became suspicious that what I'd done for my v1 install in FSX was a little more involved than just editing a line or two in panel.cfg.  I need to access my old sim computer to investigate further, but I did find a detailed set of instructions I'd written up and emailed to another user.  I need to review that, but a quick look verified that there WAS a bit more involved than I'd originally remembered due to the way F1 does things.

I'll update after I've had a chance to look at this again, but for now I think I have a bit more work to do.

Hi Scott,

I have been trying to get this working and, like you, I haven't been able to get the VOR 1 needles to move. I also tried, unsuccessfully, all the combinations of LINK: this to that, etc. I think I've found something that works, at least it seems to work for me. Maybe you can try it. It seems the default state is for COM1/NAV1 is set to OFF. If I go into the menu, toggle the panel to KX170 and then manually turn on both receivers and then go back and switch back to the 530/430 config it seems to work. I even tried flying an LPV approach and I got needle deflection on both the vertical and lateral.

I'll paste my RealityXP.GNS.ini below, but I'm not sure if any of it matters. The only thing that worked was to manually switch on COM1/NAV1 radios. Note: I only use the 530, haven't tried the 430 yet and also this is using the Warrior, but it should be the same for the Arrow.

Brilliant.  That workaround did the trick.  Thanks so much Jay!

Funny that I don't recall having this issue in FSX when I hacked the V1 530 in.  No matter - this is a simple workaround that I'm more than happy to live with in order to be able to use this in P3D.

Thanks again!

Hi Scott,

Really glad it worked!

Why ask why, right. It just works.

Happy flights.

Best,

Jay

Could you explain exactly got the gns  v2 in the arrow cockpit

It's been a bit, but as I recall it's pretty straightforward.  Be sure you've used the Just Flight Model Switcher to select "F1 GNS Model".  I use the 530, so the only line in panel.cfg I believe I've modified is as below:

[Window09]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=950,687
ident=15531
visible=0
zorder=99
gauge00=rxpGNS2!GNS_530_1,0,0,950,687
window_pos= 0.660, 0.260
window_size= 0.340, 0.420

Remember that you have to go to the "Add-ons" menu in the sim after you've loaded your aircraft to actually select the 530.  Also as Jay discovered above, before selecting the 530 be sure to turn on the default NAV1/COM1 radio or you won't get needle deflection.  Once you've done that, go to the add-on menu and switch over to the 530.

Thank you Scott for the info. I’m getting checked out on the arrow in real life that has a 530 so this will be perfect.

Hope it was helpful - and good luck on your Arrow checkout.  Former Turbo Arrow IV owner/pilot here.
