New Build ordered! (i7-8700k)

Recommended Posts

Well, it's built! I Wasn't able to spend as long on Sunday building it, so this turned into an hour or so after work for the past couple of nights.

So far I have installed X-Plane and I'm very happy with the results! The fact I can fly around NY with objects set to maximum and with a payware aircraft like FF A320U and still achieve 30+fps is fantastic. This evening, I think I'll install P3DV4. I'll also post some pics of the build.

At some point, when I get a good chunk of time, I will see if I can push this chip to 5.0ghz. Although, 4.7ghz by default is great tbh.

What size monitor? Thinking of moving to 1440p or evem 4k myself. Not sure how big to go what with menu sizes tp worry about etc.

Not sure yet, 24" or 27" I think.

I'm still researching this -- but was told that if you run 4k you will want a 40" monitor or bigger, or else the menu text is really small.   My first thought was that one could turn up the text size in Windows to counteract this, but what do I know!   I haven't tried any of it yet.

I'm still running an old 2700K, but not for too much longer!  My first post at AVSIM since...2012?  Good to see the old Hardware Forum rolling, and some of the same names I recognize from the past.

40 inch... wow! That would be ginormous on my desk. I was thinking in the 30's

Which case do you have? Can you fit the rad at the front?

Got the fractal design R5. Fitting in the front isnt an option for me, cause I need space for my storage and drives. I managed to fit it at the top of the case with nearly no free space around it^^ Need to check if it is a possible position. any advice if it is? Two picture of the building state in the case:

You manged to fit it you say, so  yes, if it fits, it fits. I don't see any issues.

What exactly concerns you?

I don't see  any issue. VRM airflow perhaps, potentially, but I doubt it.

Install it and monitor temps, VRM temp as well. Easy enough to install it and see.  Run something mildly stressful and check temps. if okay run a stress test, Realbench for example, check temps again.

Check your motherboards VRM temp range so you know what normal is for your board.
