Blurries and more BLURRRRRIES

Has your issue been fixed? I have never seen this bad of textures. I see you have tried several things; but, I would strongly suggest to do a clean and full uninstall of your graphics drivers. Then do a registry repair with Ccleaner (Back-up first)

Finally, do a clean install of non-beta graphics drivers. (only graphics drivers- nothing else)

Fly and enjoy.

This is not getting enough attention.

I had the same problem as OP, blurries all over the place, trying every possible tweak and deletion of files/folders.

What fixed my blurries was installing the latest nVidia drivers and checking the "delete all settings" checkbox. Blurries were gone.

Hi Jorge, would you be kind enough to post which Nvidia driver you're using. Also, what "delete all settings" checkbox are you referring to? Thanks.

@Terblanche  Hi, fellow South African here (Ex-Pat).

Wow, so I have NEVER had blurries. Today I updated my Nvidia graphics driver (did I hear someone say "if its not broke do not fix it!"), and proceeded to record a video of a flight in the Majestic Dash8 from Johannesburg FAOR to Harare FVHA (historic day up there today - maybe!). So.....

Somewhere over the middle of the Bushveld I noticed textures closest to me getting blurred. By the time I was nearing the border with Zimbabwe the whole world below turned to a complete mush! Never seen anything like it.

I had deleted my shaders and all was fine with the new driver install. What the heck?!

Desperate to save my flight and video, I went to World/Scenery Library, did not make any changes as all looked fine in there, so I just clicked OK, and the terrain reloaded. Textures came back crisp and sharp, and I was able to continue my flight without further incident to Harare. Textures remained sharp all the time from then on, despite fairly heavy cloud into FVHA. Got the whole "incident" on video, which I will upload this weekend, so all can see what happened for themselves.

So, is there something that goes on after a graphics driver install, that requires at least a refresh of the scenery.cfg file, or some scenery indexing file?

I certainly hope my inflight rescue turns out to be a permanent fix. Only planned flights this weekend will tell, and I will get back with an update.

Yes, this a very good point- not sure if the OP has tried this.

Hello, I'm sorry for the late reply. My current driver is version 388.31.

I always use nVidia GeForce Experience to install/reinstall/update drivers. I always use the "Custom Install" option instead of the "Express" option. Then when the installation is about to begin, click on this checkbox:

That ensures that no settings are carried over, and you start clean. That eliminated my blurries. Give it a try. Good luck!

Cheers.

Thanks for this. Sure, I always install with just the driver etc. I will be doing some further test tomorrow, after installing your suggested driver version. Thanks again.

I  always update/install my drivers using the clean install method. But one thing you must keep in mind that it will also erase your prepar3d.exe settings in your NVIDIA Control Panel as well. So make sure you revert those changes to what you originally had. Since the global setting is usually optimized for multiple screen and also performance is normal and should be set to maximum, and a few other settings that I can't recall right now.

I am not greatly troubled by the blurries although they are certainly there if I go looking for them but one thing that does irk me is the jaggies ie sawtooth vector graphics like roads and coastlines but especially roads they seem to take an age to fully lose their jaggies and none of the fixes referred to in this thread seem to change this - it was the same in FSX.  T thought limiting FPS to 20 might help bu no joy same as unlimited.  Now I am running a 4770k @4.4 and a 980ti at just below 4K but had a similar experience with lower graphics and the GPU doesn't appear to be overtaxed based on MSI afterburner readouts.

Whao - yes - so it was you who took 'Crocodile' Mnangagwa back to Harare (LOL) ...!!

This whole blurries et al stuttering combo that plagues so many flightsimmers are getting exhausting. At the moment I'm back to where I started except for the FPS on 32 while VSync capped it at 30 and for now the blurries are gone and all I have to do on a long-haul flight is to count the stutterings, divide it by pee 3 dee 4 and then play it as lotto numbers. Note that I'm not even going to begin with the shimmering mix because that's another topic well covered.

And if you look at the coast line around Cape Town, not to mention all the buildings on top of Table Mountain, then I wonder if you can take any scenery, anywhere, as correct in P3D4 because it's exactly the same as FS9 with no improvement at all. <sigh>

Nah, I arrived after his inauguration had finished. There was some talk about a secret stash of cash being carried on board ($10 million in ZAR), can only guess who that was for!

My weekend went "south", and I only had time for two short flights, one in the Dash 8 from FAOR to FALE, and a bush flight in the Carenado Cessna caravan from Maun to Mombo in the Maremi reserve and back. Happy to say my blurries are gone, though I do seen to have more stutters than I had previously.

Beside the in-flight re-write/ reload of the scenery.cfg mentioned in my previous post , I went through the Nvidia Control Panel settings carefully after completing the problem flight (normally do it, but forgot to after the graphics re-install this time round), so this may have also helped. Again, time will tell how long this "holds up". Happy to see you also seem to have solved the blurries problem for now, so I guess its progress (now to tackle the stutters!).

I also noticed the blurryiness for the first time on a trip from EDDH to LOWS in the FSLabs A320-X.

I was pushing the system for sure with FTX Germany North and high resolution textures but normal settings regarding autogen.

The Blurriness started at the end of the flight. Maybe a crossover between photoreal scenery and normal textures ?

VRAM was about 3.0-3.6GB .

On this topic I have so much to say that I really have to do a video on this. In P3Dv4, LM did update Africa scenery, using I guess the best data that was available to them (and in Africa that means word not allowed quality of data). So the coast line did change, but not the landclass so much (African countries spend taxpayers money on palaces for their politicians, not on something as mundane as routine landclass mapping!).

They probably updated the mesh with the latest V3 Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data, the same old SRTM data, just re-processed by JPL to fill more holes and give the world 20m resolution as had been available to the States for years. LM seems to have taken this data and "shoved it' into the system as is, with all its errors. So Cape Town in default P3D is a mess, a huge hole below Devils Peak, houses on Table Mountain, and all over Africa, the areas I have crisscrossed, dams are sitting on hill-like pedestals, rivers flowing up sides of mountains, and after all these years, traffic in RSA still drives on the right hand side!

Now I think we have to accept the world is a big place, and LM is not in the business of scenery design. Honestly they would need a whole new sim division to do this (maybe they do for military clients who require very accurate scenery for their training scenarios, who knows). Personally I would prefer LM to focus on the base system (like improving texture loading, getting rid of stutters, ATC etc), and leave aircraft and scenery to 3rd party developers.

And there I am afraid that in Africa, we still have a problem. I have wanted to get into scenery development for years, and spent a lot of time researching this and trying it out (I have a professional background in Geographic Information Systems and Satellite Remote Sensing). The costs of obtaining imagery to make photo-scenery of the same resolution simmers have come to expect in the USA and Europe are either astronomical, or impossible due to strict licensing rules imposed by the satellite data vendors. The time cost of taking free satellite data and doing up-to-date landclass mapping is also out of the ball park (the last 2004 RSA government landless mapping done off Landsat data involved about 10 companies, mine being one of them, cost millions of ZAR even back in 2000, and took five-plus years to complete!). So I think even the likes of ORBX, reportedly planning an Africa-LC, have their hands-full getting up-to-date, and accurate data. Lets see what they come up with.

If I was a multi-millionaire I would love to do nothing more that produce good scenery for Africa in my retitement. Having done a time-cost analysis of just the work involved, its a no-go for a one-man operation, and a retiree who has to keep working because you-know-who trashed the ZAR and my savings. I have an incomplete scenery for Cape Town area that I will work on over December (if I am given some time off), and it is about time I made that available. This is not a promise, but I will try my best to bring you guys living in that beautiful area of the world something that does it justice.

This is an old FSX screen shot of my version of Table Mountain. In P3dV4 it looks a lot better!

I have been experiencing a lot of bluriness around Amsterdam with the FSLabs A320 (frames are fine, with unlimited frames almost zero hickups, it's just this last area that's really blurry), I guess it's the last texture load before landing, just as you turn onto the ILS of runway 27. Have been playing a lot with the settings this weekend thanks to information in this thread and in the end locking frames at 21/22 seems to have fixed it where it will still pop up with unlimited frames (which is a lot smoother unfortunately, so I hope LM can fix texture loading times).

To make this possible I had to reduce autogen and some other settings and can now lock it at around 22 frames with FSLabs, Flytampa Amsterdam, all applicable ORBX for this area, Active Sky with ASCA at 512, ChasePlane, UT Live real-time via PSXSeecon, with a 4790k overclock at 4.6, 1080ti and 3440x1440 monitor. I have not tried PMDG planes as this is my absolute worse-case scenario which I fly regularly, but I suspect I can sustain a higher fps.

This mainly is an issue for arriving at EHAM, because when you leave the textures have enough time to load in before departure. So will probably end up creating a couple of sets of settings depending on what type of flying I do.

It seems that with blurries and stutters it's either, or .... the sad thing is that with FSX my only concern was VAS and never had any blurry, stuttering, shimmering or performance issue. No, I don't want to go back because of the visual quality of P3D4 but at what price? Not only in performance but I've just spend a fortune in upgrading my PC and now some people on forums tell me that everything we experience regarding blurries and stuttering is because of high-end PCs - whiskey tango foxtrot!

I can't download the file because I haven't opened a new DROPBOX since someone abused it. But I'm 100% with you that we don't ask the impossible of LM but I would have thought that seeing the fact that Cape Town is one of the top 10 tourist destinations in the world and Table Mountain is one of the seven natural wonders in the world that a little more effort would have gone into the city, coastline, and mountains including mesh and  LC. Even if they just looked at Google Maps they will know that downtown Cpt has no buildings in the ocean; and there are no houses and apartment buildings on Signal Hill or on top of Table Mountain although I'm sure Donald would love to build a casino on top of Table Mountain.

But I'm biased because I have the privilege to live here

LM have left most, if not all visual enhancements to the aftermarket.  A small city in Africa will not be an exception.
