Your going to jump me because of 2 frames....Jeepers, I'm not even going to mention our new car gets 8 more MPG than our last one. I rarely see any frame advantage from new drivers only some sort of negative thingamajig. I may have to pass on mentioning any more driver stuff.

Don't let them get to you Jim. Cynicism costs a lot more enjoyment loss for themselves than just a bad driver or two.

I like 388.31 also and agree with you on it's quality and with your assessment.

Look for the uptakes and try to avoid the downdrafts!

Kind regards,

Well.. I appreciate the fact that you let us know.

A slight increase in performance is better than a decrease in performance and even if I install and find no increase in performance then it’s still a BIG thank you for posting from my end as I didn’t even know Nvidia had released a new version.

One of the reason I visit this site regularly is because there are folks like you here.

cheers

I remember Captain .... ( can’t remember his name ) who always responded with “snakeoil” when someone reported a new holy grail.

This driver is giving me the same good fps as many before...

I believe that is the wonderful Captain Kuiregman...or something like that...you know that I know who you're talking about...he's still around, just over on the  other side...which is where I have been pretty much all year...

Am I the only one who never notices any real differences with new drivers for P3d?

I can understand newer games gaining performance with improved drivers obviously...

I don't really look for performance gains in the sim per se. I look for gains in other things I'm using, primarily games.

What I do look for is if the drivers break something or actually hurt performance in sims while enhancing the aforementioned games.

There was another one, Captain Slarty as in Slartibartfast. This goes back to the early days of AVSIM. Sadly his humour, forthright views and AVSIM proved, in the end, to be a bad fit. Perhaps inevitably he became careless and found himself crossing those well-intentioned lines of acceptability. I confess I do miss his presence as he brightened our days. Mitch will remember him.

Well, I just googled the driver number + 'prepar3d', to see if there was any feedback from users. This is the first hit - and its useful information - so thanks for posting. :)

Yes, I remember him well. Very astute, sharp witted with a dry sense of humor but his sarcasm got him into trouble. Snave was another. Sometimes it is difficult to be civil when a poster asks a question that has been answered in the post just above theirs. A simple read before posting would have resolved the question.

Ah well..

Updated to Win10 last night with new drivers, had major performance issues with P3D V4.1 which I never had with my Win7 setup. Did a clean install of P3D V4.1, still had issues so decided to remove the new drivers and go back to the 388.13 driver. With the new drivers I was having major FPS issues including blurry textures which I never had before since upgrading to the 1080 but once I reverted back to the 388.13 driver everything was fluid again.

Slarty turned up on the LM Prepar3d forum a while back - I think it was around the time of the P3D v3 release.  For about three weeks, he and snave were both members, 'til the LM mods figured them out and banned them both.

Snave can still be found on a couple of payware developers' forums.  There's always one that mistakenly thinks he's going to be a positive contributor - usually taken in by his "wit" - and it takes them a while to figure it out.

He's been back here a couple of times under new forum handles. Tom was always good about running him to ground.

As you can tell, I've got zero tolerance for that "let's eviscerate the newbie" kind of performance art - in particular because it's got nothing to do with helping people or educating them or whatever the claim is.  Anybody who claims he's doing that, and then carries on that way, is just flattering himself by telling himself a fairy tale that lets him justify his sociopathy.  And I've got less than zero tolerance for the armchair cowards ("Oooh, that was a good one!  Didn't leave any skin on that guy!  Hey, pass the popcorn, will ya?") that egged them on and kept them going.

Back on topic - I'm glad to have a report about 388.31.  My current driver has been acting up intermittently ever since the Windows 10 fall update, and I've been thinking it might be a good idea to reinstall it. Figure I might update instead.  So to the OP - thanks for posting.

One thing to remember..and I'm sure you do... historically,  even an excellent driver on one computer can be absolute junk on a different computer. The thing is, some drivers are favorable for a bigger majority of users than other drivers. Basically, hunting for a good driver can be a hit or miss ordeal.

Ditto. Someone will be along in a minute with 6 graphs and 17 screenshots to show a 2 of 3 fps increase (probably to to less weather that day)

And here we go. Same flight, previous driver (restored), didn't hang. I might do troubleshooting later, but for now, it's find with me (with 387.92).

Snave is a ...word not allowed! (the word starts with //description of word not allowed not allowed either--mod//) The worst kind of person. I remember seven years ago, I was a newbie over on the Aerosoft forum. I knew virtually nothing about simming and was eager to learn. I asked a few questions and he very quickly started his cynical and abusive replies to my questions. His bullying almost turned me away from the hobby all together. It was only when I chatted on the Orbx and Avsim forums that I discovered such a lot of help and support. Anyway, as for the new driver, yup, I'm in agreement with what has already been said, 'if it ain't broken why fix it!' BTW, FWIW, I have never found any boost in performance ever, with updating a driver. In fact, it has often caused me grief to do so, and I've ended up reverting back to my original.
