Black Friday GTN650/750 [SOLVED]

Recommended Posts

As you will imagine, I'm new here: hello dear all!

What the subject says ... but then I got absolutely frustrated. Not only that I had to realize that integration of the RXP-GTN is still in its infancy (no, even if I'm a programmer, I don't have any glue of 3d-modelling ...), not even I was able to switch the 750 on. There's (XP11) only that black bezel, which I can move around, with some knobs doing nothing. Then I had some hard hours in the internet with respect to integration and use. The only manual I found ("Reality XP GTN Touch XPlane.pdf") was no help. I learned that integration, basically, can be done (underlying a big bunch of if's), and powering-on was only mentioned in the context of RXP's advice to try RC10. And I did. But the installation was opaque. Didn't know, whether the wizard performs an update or a new installation (in a new directory), everything connected with my flight1-account, completely confused me, so I cancelled it ...

I would sleep better, If at least I could power it up ...

Thanks a lot for any tip!

P.S.: By the way, I was happily driven by JohnFly's Youtube-statement that the RXP-GTN popped up automatically in his Piper-cockpit ...

Hi, I'm sorry for the frustrating out-the-box experience. Let me try to help you.

First things first: the latest official version is v2.4.9 (the one on our website) and the latest version is v2.4.10RC (release candidate) available in this forum: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/525091-rxp-gtn-750650-touch-x-plane-v2410-rc/

-> Which one have you installed last?

Second, when there is any problem, please refer to the User's Manual troubleshooting chapter for the RXP GTN plugin log files (path / filename).

-> This usually gives clues as to what is happening.

Third, I'm not sure what you are referring to as: "But the installation was opaque. Didn't know, whether the wizard performs an update or a new installation". Do you mean the e-commerce installer? The Reality XP installer un-wrapped after e-commerce authentication?

-> Our software installers are designed so that whenever you run them they'll replace the necessary files.

Thanks a lot for your kind and, above all, fast concern – I’ll try to be more precise:

I installed your plugin this weekend after my purchase, where I received an “rxpGTN-XPL-Setup.exe” which initialized the process, simultaneously making a Flight1 account, and so on (you know the game). Installation – basically – was successful, also the trainer works. Then the LUA-installation and an RXP-GTN could be activated (within the default C172) into a separate window.

It’s version is 2.4.9.0, which is confirmed by the check-update-option. But there is no cockpit integration at all and the bezel remains black whatever I do. Then I checked all options of settings/gauge options/power source, moved the brightness bars up and down, nothing worked. Simply black. Tried some other planes, same picture.

Found your User Manual’s troubleshooting chapter, which pointed me to the log files “rxpGTN.xpl.log” and “rxpGtnSim.dll.log”. Both contain nothing more than a single line, giving respective version numbers (win.xpl version 2.4.9.0 and rxpGtnSim64.dll version 2.4.9.0).

Finally, excuse my vague opaqueness; please read the whole story here: I found your advice (to another avsim forum member) to try release candidate 10 from the “rxpGTN-XPL(2.4.10).zip” (link provided). I downloaded it and used “rxpGTN-750-XPL.exe” (probably the thing, you called “e-commerce-installer”) . Then some clicks and a button “Click Here to Reinstall!”. And so I did. Followed by the need to Flight1-validate. The next window confirmed my valid registration and offered an extraction(?) to C:\RealityXP. Well, I didn’t want a re-installation (fearing, something could be destroyed), but an update, and second, I couldn’t change the path given, while my original installation was/is on a different place (than C:\RealityXP). That was my confusion. There was no cancelling-button, so I shut it down via control-shift-escape …

Thanks again and please don’t hesitate to demand additional information!

Hi, the e-commerce installer (the one where you set your CC info / reinstall option) unwraps the RXP software installer once authenticated. Then, you have to run the extracted RXP software installer to proceed with installing the plugin etc...

The v2.4.10RC update comes wrapped and requires 1) authenticating which you've done, 2) run the extract RXP installer, otherwise, nothing new get's installed.

Hi, I've just posted v2.4.10 RC2 in the forum, you might want to try this one instead.

I'd just want to wrap up and make sure about the issue:

1) The plugin gets loaded in X-Plane 11? Is this XP11beta, or official XP11.05?

-> What about running it on the official version to eliminate any 'beta' failure?

2) The plugin menu let's you open/close devices. When you do, no popup window appears?

-> RC1 had a problem, RC2 fixes this. Please go to the aircraft folder, and delete the RealityXP.GTN.ini file to let it start anew the next time you open a device from the plugin menu.

3) The popup window displays, you say the bezel is 'black'? What about the screen? Is this booting up?

Answers:

1) XP11 V.11.05, i.e. standard, I never installed a beta

2) Probably you mean Plugins/Reality XP GTN/GTN1/<choose one GT-version> Taking GTN 750, this does result in a pop-up, ...

Note: did the delete-thing without success.

3) ... which is what I called "bezel", and, yes, inside appears to be the - black - screen.

Edited by Babbo
Should be "success" (funny typo ...)

OK, the window not appearing is a RC1 bug corrected in RC2.

Is there a RealityXP.GTN.ini file in the aircraft folder? Have you deleted it?

Then once RC2 is installed, you select the same menu item, is the window appearing?

Can you paste the RealityXP.GTN.ini file created when using RC2 then?

NB: prior installing RC2, make sure to exit XPlane and reboot the computer so that any 'locked' files can be overwritten.

Yes I deleted the ini ... now I did a re-boot and a re-installation of RC2, Yes, again the window (bezel with some knobs, inside the screen) appears. Please, find below the RealityXP.GTN.ini from the cessna-directory:

Ok, so at least we can see the window gets created. Now, with the GTN window open in X-Plane (and the screen still black isn't it?), can you tell me the content of "Documents\rxpGtnSim.dll.log" and "Documents\rxpGTN.xpl.log" ?

You're welcome - how can I hide these logs? (Not to waste room here.)

Edit: like for my last log - but it was not me! (?)

This tells you don't have the GTN 750 License authenticated. Have you purchased the GTN 650 only/instead?
