Issues with clouds and horizon applying any preset

Recommended Posts

All,

I've been trying to troubleshoot an issue for a while now that I've finally attributed to applying presets with PTA. During my flights I started noticing that I was not seeing any clouds at all, even if they were being called for by Active Sky. I started troubleshooting there, but quickly realized I could not set a static weather situation in the sim to force clouds to be present even with Active Sky shut down. Eliminate Active Sky. Then I started playing with ENVTEX with reapplying textures, changing textures etc, nothing made any difference there. Finally started playing with PTA and noticed that not only was I not seeing clouds, but the horizon was being muddied with an underlying brown texture that made all things in the distance look terrible.

Looking in the PTA folder I noticed a backup folder so I found the associated files in P3Dv4 and moved them back over (not initially knowing there is an option for this in PTA) and both problems went away. No ugly brown, and normal cloud cover. I tested several more times applying presets and removing them to recreate the issues. Although the clouds seemed to remain, unlike before, the ugly brown texture consistently appears with any preset I try, and disappears when restoring the default shaders.

Example pictures are below showing what I'm trying to describe. Any thoughts on what's going wrong when applying a preset?

Showing the underlying brown texture being applied as the sim is loading and rebuilding the shader cache:

Did you apply a preset that is supported by V2.52 ?

Losing clouds happens with pre V2.52 presets ...

This is why I ditched PTA in favour of ENVSHADE, and yes, it was post V2.52.

I tried multiple presets, and have since gotten clouds back by restoring the default shaders. I've reapplied various presets and sometimes they are there and sometimes they aren't so I guess I'm not sure which ones have caused clouds to disappear. They all cause the ugly Brown terrain though.

Use a V2.52 preset and you will be fine.

EnvShade are just a few presets and nothing can be modified for your personal taste.

Try my V8 after you have reinstalled the default shaders to test If everything then looks ok.

You need Active Sky P4 . Some people don’t know and try using Active Sky 16...

Hello Gerard,

I know and I have ASP4, I found out that there seems to be a problem in injecting cloud textures. When using textures from REX or ASCA, I see low clouds. When using cumulusclouds from EnvTex, all low clouds are missing and it rains out of the blue....?

Btw, when using a PTA preset, brown colours are coming back.

I already refreshed all shaders, reinstalled ActiveSky, used different presets, but at this moment the problem is caused by missing textures.

Regards,

Me too. The brown textures issue kills it for me so I'm using default again. Wondering if envshade has the same problem.

Can't seem to solve the brown ground texture issue. Any ideas where that's coming from?
