High FPS Low Smoothness

Recommended Posts

I’m running an i7 7700k, overclocked to 4.9GHz, 1080 TI Aurous Xtreme, with 64 GB DDR @3200. My monitor is an Acer Predator x34 Gsync 100hz. I have Black Marble Base and Vector, Pilot’s FS NG Ultimate Mesh, practically all of Orbx’s products. I’m running an affinity mask of 116 tweak. Although I get relatively good FPS, noting below 25, and maximums of about 80 FPS, the experience isn’t smooth, even at high FPS. How can I get rid of stutters?  Any suggestions will be much appreciated…

Best,

Regards,

Shelman S.

If your FPS is fluctuating a lot that might do it.  Try locking your FPS to something you can always maintain and experiment with vsync on/off especially if you can run a monitor down to 30hz.

Lock your FPS at 20 or 30 and start from there. As you have found out, high FPS does not mean smoothness.

Thank you for the advice. Although very briefly, my FPS drops to less than 20 while on approach to EGLL with Orbx England installed. Besides this, it’s almost always above 30 FPS, even at dense city centers, flying VFR. So, will it be ok to lock my FPS at 30, even though I cannot always maintain it indefinitely? I have experimented with V-Sync and triple buffering on and off, but haven’t noticed any difference. Is it because I have G-Sync? Also, why do you recommend that I run my monitor at 30hz when it is capable of 100hz with Gsync?

Kind regards,

Kind regards,

Maintaining your monitors refresh rate with vsync on usually results in a smooth experience.  I myself run it down to 25hz and as long as I maintain 25 FPS it's perfectly smooth.  A lot of people have success with 30.

Also London is a black hole for FPS.  I have to back my settings off quite a bit when flying there to maintain reasonable FPS and I don't even use the ORBX region (but I do use global/vector and have Aerosoft EGLL).

How do I limit my monitors refresh rate? Do I have to set it in the prepar3d.cfg file? Regards,

Also Orbx England is really hard of everything you're much better just using OLC. Orbx England is know as not there best regions for performance.

Yes thank you for confirming, isn't there a website that provides reviews, about Orbx's region performance?

Lock your frame at a level that match you 100hz with vsync and triple B ON.

I have 120hz and lock mine at 24 (120/5) FPS+1 with your 100hz I would try 25 (100/4)FPS+1.

The +1 is because you never get 25 it will always be IE 24.9 so always add 1 So for you 26 FPS you will see it shows around 25.7-25.9 hence your at 25....not a true 26.
