PC Improvements

Recommended Posts

Currently my specs are below.  I fly FSlabs and PMDG planes in the US with lots of payware airports, AS16 and Orbx.  I am looking to upgrade my system a bit but being a novice, I am not sure what to get to see the biggest improvements.  I am looking for a tad more fluidity to my simming experience.  Being not too technical, I am not sure if there is anything that I can add to get a better experience than what I am having now (although I am relatively happy with how I am set up).  Let me know what you think.

Win10, Gigabyte Aorus Z270x Gaming 5, LGA 1151, Intel 7th Gen Core i7 7700K (4.7GHz Overclock) Quad Core, Corsair Hydro Series H60 Liquid Cooling, 16GB G.Skill DDR4 SDRAM 2400MHz, 6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, PCI Express 3.0, 750 Watt Corsair RM Series Power Supply, 500GB Samsung EVO 850 Solid State Drive (SSD)

Intel Core i7 12700K (5.0GHz Max Boost Clock) 12-Core CPU   32GB G.Skill Performance DDR4 SDRAM 3600MHz       Graphics Processor:12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, GDDR6x System   2TB Western Digital, NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive

There is some room for video card upgrade. Replacing other components would not give much benefit If you do not want a complete platform change.

What would upgrading the video card give me?  What video card would you suggest?

Your main hardware is up to date. The only thing that you Need to upgrade is that video card. Gtx 1070 0r 1080. If you got the cash buy 1080ti. This is where you will have the greatest benefit especially with 8+gb of vram

If you can afford, you should go for the GTX1080Ti. It is probably the only card giving good results in regard of Dynamic Lighting/Antialiasing (SSAA).

The 1080Ti would give you the best improvement overall so that it would be worth the cost. IMHO, the 1070 would be a waste of funds, the improvement gained over the 1060 would not justify the cost. The plain 1080 would be a little better in that regard but personally, I would still question the cost vs reward. The extra $$ for the 1080Ti would be the way to go.

I still wonder why a lot of people pair a 7700K with a 1060, I’ve seen this configuration around a lot and it still doesn’t make sense to me. Anyways, like the others said, a 1080 Ti would really be the only card that would make a big difference, you could always wait until around May or so when the new architecture launches and snag a 1080 Ti for around $350-400 or so.

Also enable HT if you can with your overclock, and try to ensure you are running the XMP profile for your DDR4 RAM (the bandwidth will help with the minimum FPS which helps with fluidity...).

I'll believe that when I see it

even with new tech I doubt the 1080ti will go to 400.

980 Ti dropped to around $400 once Pascal had been out for a while, dropped even lower once the Ti came out.

But that was the 900 cards.  My gtx 970 was about 300 usd.  The gtx 1070's are approx 420 usd.  I could see a 1080 to going to 500-600
