How to Activate Leg (Q400)

Recommended Posts

I want to fly from MINOE to PACIF...  ATC assigns me a heading till joining the airway.  How can I activate that leg on the fms?

If you haven't reached MINOE go DTO MINOE and let nav work from there else DTO PACIF should work.

Negative...  ATC assigned me a heading 110 and intercept V25 (the route from MINOE to PACIF).  If I go DTO that's not intercept.  I know how to do DTO.

if you can't enter an intercept heading for PACIF in DTO then you have to stay in heading mode I guess, like I said Bombardier is so bad making airplanes that are pilot friendly

Delete MINOE and your aircraft will go towards the next WPT.

Hmmmm ok.  Obviously I can tune the airway in nav1 and fly using the VOR needle.  But there should be a way - off to scoure the manual.

Oh, is there a way to get NAV2 needle on the pilot's EHSI?  I see the NAV1 needle will show if FMS is the CDI source... but can I have both needles?  At the moment I've tuned the copilot's EHSI to NAV2.

Currently ADF2 is your 2nd EHSI source, just select VOR.

I think if you select the FR LSK on the nav page and choose MINOE, it should  sequence the TO field to PACIF and make that leg active. Then fly your assigned heading until the FMS CDI centers then proceed on course.

Can't you create a PVOR with desired track and inbd Radial specified...

Go to NAV - MNVR - PVOR.

Isn't this what the heading mode on the maneuvers (MNVR) page is for? Didn't give it a try myself yet but you can use it to fly a specific heading, as for instance assigned by ATC, while staying in LNAV mode. You can use that heading to intercept an airway. See the SystemDescription.pdf page 120-121.

Yes if intercept sub-mode is offered as escape option for FMS CMD HDG. That will enable pilot to define an intercept angle to current nav leg. Dont remember if the mjc q400 models this?

But under ATC vectoring, pvor is very easy to set-up aswell.

Made a quick video of one way to do it. Blooper included. :)

I have already created the PVOR for OSMUM and just waiting for intercept while flying on assigned ATC Heading of 240

Simply select VOR1 and VOR2 to show on the HSI using the BRG knobs...? In your screenshot you have them set to VOR1 and ADF2: simply change ADF2 to VOR2. (But maybe I am not understanding the question.) The HSI can show three pointers (the main one being the one you select with Source (FMS=purple, VOR=blue) and the other two being the bearing pointers you can select on the pedestal (left=white, right=green).
