GTX 1080 QUESTION

Looking at upgrading from a 750ti to a Gigabyte Turbo GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5 OC. Would this card be good enough to run P3D V4.1 at decent frames? I know there`s a 1080ti but I`m not sure if I can really stretch to it. Also, would a Corsair CX 550W PSU be sufficient for a 1080?

What CPU?  If as old as your 750 card you will probably be disappointed.  A 550w will not be enough if used with a CPU worthy of being paired with a 1080

That is quite good then.  I run a 1080 with a 6700k overclocked and I can say the CPU is still the main bottleneck.  I don't think you would see much benefit 1080 vs 1080Ti.  You need a new power supply though.  The 1080 even physically takes a second 6 or 8 pin power connector vs the single plug on your 750.  I remember when i went 700 series to 900 series my power supply did not have enough physical outputs.

Take a look here to get a good idea of what size PSU you need: https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator. However, bear in mind that PSUs are not really designed to run continuously at, or near, their maximum rated output.

Sorry to jump in here, but I have a similar question...  my specs below, but 4790K OC @ 4.5GHz and currently GTX 970.  I run P3Dv4.1 and wonder if a GTX 1080 or 1080Ti would be a good investment.  I have plenty of power.  I may upgrade my MB & CPU at some point but for now I'm trying to figure out what to do with the GPU.  I have a bunch of ORBX stuff.

Well I've lived this actually lol, When i built my 6700k system OC'ed to i think 4.6 back then, I kept the 970 I had thinking it would be more than enough .  Ended up going 1080 a few months later and it was a very obvious improvement, well worth it.  I'm glad I didn't do it all at once or I would not have appreciated the value.  The higher vram alone for these 64 bit sims is huge .  970 has 4gb right? and only uses 3.5 or something.

I should add I am really only talking about P3D which uses a lot more video card horsepower than FSX

should be good .   I've always gone so way over board on power supplies to be honest, I like removing that variable from a PC build.

My 4790K @ 4.8GHz was running with a 970 when I moved from FSX to P3Dv4 this summer... I ran with the 970 for a few weeks before moving to a GTX 1080.  I use a 1900 x 1200 monitor, which the 970 handled OK with P3Dv4, but the 1080 does so much better.  No extra FPS (didn't expect any) but far more flexibility in how I configure the sim.  Curious how my system using the 970 was a good balance of hardware for FSX, and now the 1080 brings back that good hardware balance with P3Dv4.  So yes, the 1080 was a good choice... no doubt the 1080Ti would be a better choice.

 I have a GTX 1080 and an i7 7700k with an Evga G3 550w and it runs with no problems. If stress testing both together it only comes up to about 330W, it can run it just fine.

@lownslo, @Breene thanks!  I was wondering if there would be a difference between the 1080 and 1080ti with my 4790K or if I would be CPU limited. My current monitor is 1920 x 1080 but I may get a 40” Samsung 4K. But I gues if I eventually upgrade the MB & CPU the ti would be a wise choice for future growth.  What do you think?  Thanks.
