P3D v4.1 CTD with Fall Creators Update

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My computer finally did the Fall Creator's Update yesterday morning, and now I'm getting a CTD about 3 minutes after launching a scenario every time. I've tried deleting the .cfg file already and that did nothing. Haven't been able to get much out of the even log until just this last crash, when I got 2 Application errors, 1 System error, and 1 System warning. Details for each below. Anyone know what's going on and if there is an available fix?

My computer finally did the Fall Creator's Update yesterday morning, and now I'm getting a CTD about 3 minutes after launching a scenario every time.

Somehow your update did not update properly and you should do a recover (go to Windows Update and click on Recover).  See if the errors still exist.  Not sure why Windows just updated you to 1709 yesterday as that has been out for some time now.  It is extremely stable so you have a problem with your computer or a setting.  I would go back to the previous version, fly P3DV4 and see if the problems still exist.  If not, then manually request the 1709 update and have it installed again.

The kernelbase.dll error is based on high settings.  Your video card cannot handle the settings you are throwing at it.  Page 35, AVSIM CTD Guide - link in my signature, provides more info.  I might also add the version is wrong.  It should be 16299.125 as that is the latest build number for Windows 10.  You might go to Windows Update and check for updates as you do not have the latest.

The dotnet error (first error you posted) was fixed by someone who posted in the P3D Forums at Lockheed Martin by rolling back the video card driver to an earlier version.  I personally disagree that's a fix but it worked for one person.  On page 28 and 29, AVSIM CTD Guide, I discuss trying to repair the dotnet by running a repair tool.  It has worked for me in the past.  The dotnet error you received is very, very common.  Did you know that dotnet's are used by Microsoft to help run applications developed by other developers?  P3D could care less about dotnet Version: v4.0.30319.  P3D just happened to be running when one of your addons triggered this error.  So it is not Lockheed Martin's problem.  Their application runs based off of version 4.6.2.  You probably have an old incompatible application addon that P3DV4.1 does not like.

Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM

The DCOM error is a Windows issue.  It is impossible to fix and most of the recommendations I have seen on the Internet from Microsoft Techs is to let it happen as it will not hurt the operation of Windows or any of your applications.  The error shows up everytime you start up Windows.  It has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with P3D.  It won't even go away even if you completely reinstalled Windows 10.  I have it and millions of other users have this error showing up continually in the Event Viewer.  In fact, I just looked and I got the error 3 times in one second!!!  Yesterday I got it 4 times in one second!!  If you ever find a solution (that is intelligible), please let me know.  I do not even think Microsoft Techs have a clue.  I did try to look for a solution to my same issues and found this possible solution - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/910336/windows-update-error-0x80070002-or-0x80070003.  My DCOM errors indicate my Windows Update is missing some files too!!!

Best regards,

Jim

I'll run some recovery and fix stuff to see what happens. But this one confuses me, as my video card has had absolutely zero problems running P3D with my current settings for the last several months, I don't know why that would suddenly change.

I also read a post in another forum to be sure you have OS build 16299.125 (aka KB4054517). Apparently some other individuals were having problems with 1709 because the update for whatever reason did not include this part.

I'll try getting this from the Update Catalog. My computer is always far behind on updates for some reason, even though it claims it's not.

Okay, this was wrong info as you have Event ID 10016 which is much different from the Event ID 1008 I had yesterday.  Event ID 10016 is much, much more complicated.  Event ID 10016 — COM Security Policy Configuration. COM+ applications use Microsoft Component Object Model (COM) technology in Microsoft Windows operating systems to communicate and take advantage of Windows services. COM technologies include COM+, DCOM, and ActiveX Controls.  Here is the fix for that - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4022522/dcom-event-id-10016-is-logged-in-windows-10-and-windows-server-2016

I'm not even going to try to fix it.

Progress update: so I re-installed KB4054517. Now it's looking like my AMD graphics driver has been corrupted, as it's telling me that it can't find a driver at all. That would explain the graphics card overload error. I'll work from there.

My system is showing KB4058043 was installed on 12/17/2017 and says there are no more updates.  My KB is much higher than the one you posted KB4054517.

I ran the Windows Update troubleshooter and it says I have updates ready to install but they did not install and asked me a stupid question, "would you like us to fix this?"  I said yes and it said it fixed it but that was immediately after I clicked 'yes'.  Tried to check for updates and it keeps saying there are none.  If I run the troubleshooter again, it will say the same thing... that updates are available.  Houston, I think we have a problem.

Regarding the Event ID 100016 error, I tried to fix it according to their instructions but kept getting errors stating I did not have permission to do what they told me to do.  Still, I believe it is one of those errors where it does not hurt the operation of Windows or any apps.  Eventually the error will go away (or that is historically what I have seen in the past).  P3DV4.1 works flawlessly for me and has since I updated several months ago.  The child window error never affected P3DV4 but it definitely caused me heartaches with FSX.  FSX is now working flawlessly too after the 1709 update.
