Building/buying a computer specifically for FSX

I am looking to build a PC just for FSX. I would like to run FSX on maxed out settings with AI, and lots of scenery addons, aircraft addons and weather addons, at a high FPS count and good graphics. I have heard that it is not recommended to buy a prebuilt one, but what about an  XForce PC, or Digital Storm, or even one of Jetline Systems PC’s?

An even better option if you have time, is to rank the above, rather than say what is best. If a PC like that is not recommended, then I have a list of components, and I’m wondering if I can build a really good PC with them. Tell me if something won’t work or if I am missing something please. Also, I have no budget. By the way, I just searched up components needed to build a computer to get this list, and took down the best(?) gaming ones I could find, so sorry if this list is completely wrong. I will also need LOTS of storage, considering the amount of addons I want to add.

If I get one of the above PCs, I don’t care what build it is. If I am custom building it though, then I want to run Windows 10. For the case, I have no idea what to get, but considering how powerful a computer I want, I think I want a soundproof case so it isn’t too loud. With the case, I want it to have some cool colours like a red trim or blue trim, or even illuminated like in some of the above PCs. I am also guessing that I will need a hell lot of power(100 watts?) to make the PC work considering how powerful it is going to be and since I will be using many USB ports to plug in stuff for my sim and extras. Once I have finished deciding on all of my parts, I will need steps on how to build this thing because I am a complete noob at this stuff. 

 

For my part list up there, I was wondering if you could lable what each part is(next to each component lable what the actual part is)? I know which are the graphics card and processor and motherboard, but I have no clue what the rest is.

 

Custom built or not, I need monitor recommendations, no larger than 40 inches, with amazing quality, curved or not, I don’t mind. 4K graphics is a must to get the best graphics. These are some of the monitors I am looking at.

Also, what keyboard and mouse do you guys recommend? Here are some gaming keyboards and gaming mouses that I am looking at. I do not want to spend too much on these though, preferably under $120. I prefer wireless for both. With the keyboard, I am looking for something smallish, so it is easy to fit on my desk since with my simulator I do not have much room. I do not care about lighting. I also want something that will last a very long time, so something made out of decent materials whether it is heavy or not it doesn’t matter. The mouse preferably needs to be cheap, like $30 or less. I want to achieve comfort out of it, so one perfectly shaped to fit the right hand. Also I don’t want a small or flat mouse.

The final two things I am looking at getting, custom built PC or not, is an external USB port hub, and an external USB DVD/CD drive. I will need the extra USB ports because I have many things that I need to plug in. The external drive will just make it easier and handier to access, and it can sit ontop of my desk that way. I don’t think it makes too much of a difference for which two products to get, because they all do exactly the same thing, no?

 

As I said earlier I do not have much room on my desk because of my simulator setup, so I am looking at either building my own keyboard tray or buying one.

 

This post is open to everyone, and please argue/have discussions about stuff, because I want to know what is best. Thanks in advance.

 

P.s I have no budget, so please don’t tell me about cheaper options UNLESS they are actually better than the other stuff.

Maxed settings? Not all of them are worth it.

Forget HDD. Use only SSD. Any thing you plug into a USB hub is going to be slower and that much more clutter ( buy a bigger desk) and stuff to go wrong. The hardware you buy will be less important than how you set it up, and use, and take care of it. I don't trust a wireless mouse and keyboard for long term use. Wired doesn't get low on battery at inconvenient times.

No budget, and your build specifies an i7-4970K ??? It looks like you did your research quite a while ago. That is a 4th generation CPU. Gen 8 was just released a short time ago. You'll be wanting at minimum, an 17-8700K or an 15-8600K.

I assume your statement that you have "no budget" means you don't have a limit (or max) that you can spend.  The sky is the limit, in other words.  If this is the case, then I will be simplistic in my response... go with the newest, top-end component in each category, then assemble the machine yourself.  In this day in age, top-end components work well together with virtually none of the annoying driver conflicts that used to plague home builders years ago.  Get a top-end Gen 8 Intel K-series processor coupled with a compatible high-end motherboard from a reputable vendor (ASUS, GigaByte, ASRock, etc.).  And be sure to include some type of closed-loop, liquid cooling solution for the CPU (like Corsair Hydro series or equivalent) so you can overclock the processor.  Get the fastest RAM that's compatible with the MB/Processor and the latest in NVIDIA graphics cards (GTX-180Ti in SLI, or better).  And definitely go with SSDs for your Main and Gaming drives.  Storage drives don't need to be SSD since speed isn't the first priority, but if money is no issue, go with SSDs for storage as well.  

I'm not sure there is a "best" solution out there with all the available options, but if you get the newest, high-end components and put it all together, you'll have your best shot at acceptable FSX performance.  And, I might add, if money isn't and option, I'd switch over to Prepar3D V4 since it is now a 64-bit application and development continues well past where FSX stopped.  Yes, you'd have to repurchase many of your addons, but again, you seem to imply money isn't a problem.

You are way behind the times. From your post it's clear you're not up to speed with the latest hardware. I recommend that you watch videos, read articles, and do some research to get current. I will offer a few points to get you started though...

 

8700K

16 or 32 GB DDR4 GSkill Ripjaw V or Trident Z. 3200 MHz is fine. Trident Z with LED's available, as you like lighting.

Evga 1080 Ti with ACX 3.0 cooler.

850 Evo is fine for bulk storage, but as you have zero price limit, why not go for a 2 TB 960 Pro M.2. If not, a 500 or 250 GB M.2 and then the Evo SSD for bulk storage. 

Z370 Motherboard. I would recommend Asus. Will have an M.2 socket for the 960 Pro. 

You wont need a 1000 watt PSU unless you're running SLI. But why not if you have loads of dosh. I would recommend EVGA, Enermax and Corsair. 

H115i is an excellent AIO water cooler. But not essential. Noctua NH-D15 is also a top contender and will enable quite decent overclocks.

A case designed specifically for soundproofing isn't required. The case fans can be tailored to your requirements so they run at the appropriate RPM for a given load. You simply set up a fan profile via the included motherboard software, or in the UEFI. 

I use a Corsair Strafe RGB keyboard with Cheery MX Silent keys. love it.

You mention Jerline Systems for $8000, you can have them build one for a lot less than that, and it should perform very well with FSX.
Or you can build it yourself.

He did mention the H115i though. Superior to the H100i V2. 280 rather than 240 rad. Not that the H100i isn't a good cooler. 

And as mentioned, he shouldn't be fooled into thinking big air wouldn't work.

With regards to Jetline systems, they have an excellent reputation, particularly  for after-sales service, but you can build identical systems for about half the cost (or much better systems and still save money). Admittedly you wouldn't get specialist support but these forums always seem to come up with the solutions to even the most taxing problems.

The Jetline Systems Gravity GTX is a tad over $4,000, nowhere near $8,000. I had one built in July of this year and it is a great, powerful computer. I have the I7-7700K as that was the only CPU option when I ordered it.

I would seriously consider P3D, v4 over FSX.  I flew FSX for many many years and made the switch ... you will never regret it.  Building an expensive computer for FSX just doesn't make sense to me.

I would agree with you for someone who doesn't already have FSX. However, for someone who does have it, installing it on a new system is a no-cost option. Buying P3D and replicating an FSX setup (scenery, aircraft, utilities) can be a very costly option, particularly as some developers will charge you the full price again for P3D compatibility. Another thing to consider is that if a new system runs FSX well, it should run P3D at least as well, if not better, if you opt to move to that later.
