747 Short Haul routes

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

Due to some technical issues with the 777 and A320 I have no other choice to fly the 747. Now, I‘m looking for some nice and short routes around the world which are operated by a 747. I do like long hauls but I’d like to do multiple landings per day not only one. It doesn‘t matter if it‘s a PAX flight or a cargo flight, any suggestions would be appreciated. Currently I‘m only flying domestic routes in Japan but I‘d like to fly somewhere else for a change.

Kind regards

Well more specific on how short you want.

ICN-PVG

The following is what we call the rice run.  We would do it in a night.

NRT-NGO

NGO-PVG

PVG-NRT

Other random ones

ICN-HKG

ANC-PAE

CVG-ORD

MIA-JFK

JFK-MIA

LAX-PDX

Problem with the states is there might be a short flight but usually followed up with a long one.  Other usually multiple short legs.  Like I might go MIA-JFK but the following leg is to ANC which is 6 1/2 hours.

Honestly don't know why so many guys get wound up on flying "actual" routes.  No such thing in the freight world.  There might be scheduled flying, but every cargo outfit including FedEx and UPS do charter work which will have them going to random airports.  Anyone flying the 747 is especially does charter work.  So use your imagination, you can do no wrong.  If a city has an industry and an airport that can support the aircraft chances are a 747 has made a visit.

If you could just get over that "must only fly real world routes" mentality, the entire virtual world would open up for your simulated pleasure

Correct.  After all, our virtual passengers appreciate the virtual leg room by under loading the plane .  It's a hurdle to get over with, but once you free yourself from the real world routes, you will be free.  Fuel is really cheap, so you will only have real weather to content with.

I am not sure if it’s still a real route: LSZH-EHAM. I think SIA did it at one stage.

But as other posts say, I don’t really care that much. I just got the 744 myself and having fun on this route.

I’ve come across some Atlas flights SDF-EWR and return...not sure if that’s just a pre-Christmas flight or not.

Also KMEM-TJSJ...shows up on flightaware as a FedEx flight number, but it’s operated by Atlas metal.

Another (very) short haul route that 747s used to fly was Dublin-Shannon/Shannon-Dublin in the days when all transatlantic flights out of Ireland had to make a compulsory stopover at Shannon. I flew Aer Lingus 747s on this route as a passenger quite a few times in the 70s but I think some other airlines such as Northwest also had to fly these legs until the compulsory Shannon stopover rule was relaxed and eventually abandoned. Although generally EI flew the route at FL150, on at least one beautiful clear Summer morning I heard an EI 747 request and receive ATC clearance to fly Shannon-Dublin VFR below 3000ft!

....and that brings us nicely to the statement "we really need a super detailed version of EINN Shannon in P3D"!
