Around the World in a B737

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

Just thought I would let people know me and my friend will be attempting to fly around the world in variants of the 737. We are only using real world routes and hope to hit every continent except for Antarctica. We managed to plan the journey into 23 legs.

  1. TNCM – KATL DAL919
  2. KATL – MHTG DAL849
  3. MHTG – KIAH UAL1541
  4. KIAH – KLAX UAL1842
  5. KLAX – PHNL UAL1224
  6. PHNL – PGUM GIA8011
  7. PGUM – RPLL UAL1834
  8. RPLL – WMKK MAS807
  9. WMKK – YPPH MAS127
  10. YPPH – WIII GIA725
  11. WIII – VTBS BIA866
  12. VTBS – VABB JAI69
  13. VABB – OMDB JAI558
  14. OMDB – UUEE AFL525
  15. UUEE – LIRF AFL2418
  16. LIRF – HECA MSR792
  17. HECA – EHAM MSR757
  18. EHAM – EGLL KLM1033
  19. EGLL – ENGM SAS812
  20. ENGM – EIDW SAS4603
  21. EIDW – CYYT WJA17
  22. CYYT – CYYZ WJA547
  23. CYYZ – TNCM WJA2652

This route covers 19 countries (https://www.mapcustomizer.com/map/rtw.fsx) and uses 11 different airlines. We also hope to fly all of these legs with the free version of Deskpilot. I also know some of the legs seem a bit redundant as they go backwards but it is just because of the fact that we are only using 737's. I am planning on posting here before each flight and after each flight (with screenshots, etc.). Any ideas/suggestions are always welcome:biggrin:. Also feel free to track us on Vatsim (we will be using the call signs stated above)!!!

Great idea.  However, should this be in the Around the World Race forum instead? You will get more exposure there.

Why not Antarctica? Scandinavian Airlines have been there in a 737 through Chile and South Africa. Also you are not going to South America either so maybe consider going there too.

The SAS 737-600 does have the range to make it and it has been there before, this was not the first 737 there but probably the first Commercial 737 to do it:

Technically MHTG is in South America but I might try and add another leg in there somewhere.

This is incorrect, South America begins at the lIsthmus of Panama, Toncontín International Airport is north of that so lies in Central America which is on the continent of North America.

This is the Isthmus of Panama:

Looks like fun but GIA8011 isn’t a scheduled flight, it was last used for a delivery flight of a MAX (PK-GDA) to Garuda Indonesia. For the transpacific flight you probably want to look at PHNL to NFFN via Fiji Airways. From NFFN there are several 737 flights to Australia.

That's a 700-series of the BBJ-line. The 600 doesn't have winglets. :)

It was used by SAS for a short period to ferry rich oil workers from Stavanger (Norway) to Houston - all seats in business class configuration.

I chose not to incorporate that because both me and my friend wanted to go through the UK and either Oslo or Arlanda.

As I can't find any scheduled flight to an international airport in Antarctica, I will not be incorporating that into this journey (although I definitely will have a look into flying there soon)

It is better with a 757, or a C-17 or C-130 flying out of Christchurch to McMurdo or Scott Base, 737's don't have quite the range or capacity from New Zealand so they use those from Chile or South Africa.

Loftleidir Icelandic Boeing 757 offers the only passenger service to Antartica which is really cool:

Pre-flighting for leg1.

Looking at the en-route weather, it might get a bit bumpy...
