Hi Ron,I am not angry, and I certainly have nothing agains Bill A. What makes me somewhat "bored", is that even if the proof is presented "black on white" sotospeak,...people tend to choose not to see the evidence. That is what makes freeware and payware developers to feel kind of hopeless when issues like this is brought to the open. And "the other Bill" does not have any approval from Eric. He even writes in the "Readme" that he don

Don't you think that if Eric cares deeply about the fate of of his FS98 bitmap that he is incapable of saying so? I very much enjoyed the work that you did in the past, but your angst over this is a bit much. If Eric really cares, I am sure that he will get in touch with AVSIM and/or the person who made the panel in question.DJ

I don

Staffan

I doubt if he does - he moved away from FS a long time ago. Should he care, the enforcement of copyright is up to him, but I doubt if he could get too worked up about the use a bitmap intended for a version of FS that is three versions out of date.DJ

*AHEM*Guys: Please don't turn this into a mud-slinging thread, because if it does, I'm going to have to lock it.Regards,

I guess we all should lean back and not care about what

You know, now that Eric is mentioned, where did he go? Last I heard he was flying 757's for American. I am curious as to what he is doing now. He was probably one of the first FS developers to add complexity to the panels. I am not sure if am right, but the Level-D series of add-ons have a direct lineage to Eric's 767/757 panels... regards,Macs :)

Hi,Just before the Level-D title was released, Eric made some apperances on the 767 PIC forum. However, as I understood things, due to the tragic 9/11, Eric made some comments about that from his own point of view and experiences,...and basicly "#### broke loose" on the forum. All those threads was deleted by the moderator. Since then I have not seen Eric around anywhere. And I think he just had it with some in this community. But ofcourse I could be wrong. ;-)You can ask Lou at Dreamfleet how Eric is. They have a close contact as I understand.http://www.scandicair.com/images/sa_banner.gifhttp://www.panelshop.com/Banners/VIP_Club.gifI :-erks on DELL,...And that is an understatement. :-hahMy specs are:Dell Dimension 4600 P4/2.8 at 3.0 Ghz1024 Mb DDR333 Dual channel memory (2x256,1x512)256 Mb ATI Radeon X850 Pro ViVo, flashed to a X850 XT PE. Hey, this was in the ORIGINAL READ ME "I don't know who the author's name is" - well for your information, I DID contact the "original author" and got to the General User info in the read me I included, and, for your information, I ALSO got permission to use ANY and ALL of the archive, including the taxi gauges. All I did was make the panel, some 8 years old, useable in fs9. That's all!! I haven't violated any copyright - I read and understood completely before uploading it, in fact, I cancelled upload TWICE, just TO MAKE CERTAIN everything WAS kosher. You have to remember that this bitmap isn't the same as the one you show above. I didn't retouch a thing, so it WOULD be legal. Go ahead and check with the author of the original zip called md80s.zip - see for yourself that you needn't be pointing the finger at me. I'm here not to hinder or copy, I'm here to help and provide FREEWARE which looks as nice as possible. That's all. Anyway, enjoy the panel. I have just uploaded a fix for the lights and the engine starters as they wouldn't work in some aircraft.B. A.

Hi,Do you honestly feel it is alright to use the copyrighted bitmap as a third author, and just claim that you got permission from the non original author who did his own editing of the panel? Please,......... :-rollAnd for your information, the original panel is "md83pn11.zip", and can be downloaded from the "all nodes busy" site. In that you can also read everything needed regarding who is the copyright owner of this panel.....and that is surely not the "second author".Also,...do you really think that a copyright expires just because the original panel is for FS98? Well....if so,...please reconsidder.I honestly think you should contact the original author Eric Ernst, to get his permission.http://www.scandicair.com/images/sa_banner.gifhttp://www.panelshop.com/Banners/VIP_Club.gifI :-erks on DELL,...And that is an understatement. :-hahMy specs are:Dell Dimension 4600 P4/2.8 at 3.0 Ghz1024 Mb DDR333 Dual channel memory (2x256,1x512)256 Mb ATI Radeon X850 Pro ViVo, flashed to a X850 XT PE. NO, you don't even go there Staffan!! That panel you are showing comes from Tom Dennis of our very own avsim!! I attach his original read me and his original panel. While you're at it, try emailing Tom using the readme he includes in his md80s.zip. You won't have any luck because I tried. Tom includes a GNU - General User license in "his" md80s.zip. I provide that as well. Seeing that his readme says he "didn't know his name" when speaking about the panel designer, had I known Tom used Eric Ernst's panel bitmap, I wouldn't have even contemplated uploading that panel. Only the GNU he includes gives the panel in "his" md80s.zip a free distribution - a "public domain" useage!! So STOP pointing your finger at me. I have been publicly humiliated for something I haven't done. Why don't you go ask Tom Dennis why he "didn't know the author" of the panel? Here's his addy - I got it because all the fuss you made here caused him to dig his own hole by contacting me to say that I "stole" "his" panel. In light of this, I'd say that Tom has some explaining to do to Eric Ernst becuase that pic you have of "bill Fs2004" is actually from Tom Dennis's md80s.zip file!! I didn't touch it.I attach it here for your viewing pleasure. I also believe I'm owed an apology from our own Rick Rossner for calling it a "file of shame' and calling me an "alleged thief". He knows the real story by now because I sent him everything. By the way, the file has been removed. In light of that, I demand that Tom Dennis'md80s.zip be removed as well because it violates copyright (Tom spells it copywrite - a little education wouldn't go astray, Tom).I believe that Tom needs to apologise to Eric for using his panel. Here's Tom's addy - ask him where he got the panel shown from: email addresses removed see what he says. I haven't gotten an answer yet. Probably never will. Shame on you Staffan for ASSuming. One must NEVER ASSume until they know the facts. Go on and look at these attachments - particularly the first text where Tom says he "doesn't know the author's name" and the jpeg shot that comes with Tom's md80s.zip download. I have had an absolute gut full of your arrogance Staffan. Get a life. I'm OUTA here folks - no disrespect meant - you'd be angry too if this happened to you for trying to be helpful. My first upload ... and this is the result. Thanks a heap. Bye....Bill A.

Hello Staffan,I usually try to avoid to get mixed up in these kind of threads, but I really feel you should be more carefull with statements like you made in this thread. Apart from your wrong assumption about the "Bill A." 's, if you write general statements like""He admits though that he used the bitmap from the FS98 panel. Now,...that only shows how much he cares.""you really cross a line.To show you how much Bill A. a.k.a. Phantomflyer cares: Tom Dennis' upload md80s.zip includes some of my groundhandling gauges, for which Tom states in his README that, for redistribution, one should ask my permission.Which is EXACTLY what Phantomflyer did (and got) !!And which shows that he DOES care about copyright !!Unlike a lot of other uploaders, that simply included them (which I personally won't make a fuzz about, as long as it remains freeware). If you would have done some "investigation" yourself, Tom Dennis' upload clearly states:""Also I would like to thank the original designer of this FS98 Panel. However, I do not know his name. ""Especially since Phantomflyer is a first-time uploader, I feel you might have considered giving Phantomflyer the benefit of the doubt.Even stronger: In my eyes he did absolutely nothing wrong. IF even you want to accuse someone of not respecting copyright (which is not even yours), you are attacking the wrong person. So I think an appology to "Phantomflyer" would be in place here .Regards, Rob Barendregt
