Flight plan vs. ATC

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am flying with B737-800 PMDG NGX in my FSX-SE mostly. I have bought  add-on UT live recetnly but still  have problem with ATC. I am programming  a flight plan in my FMC using SID , STAR but there is discrepancy with ATC. Of course there is often to change the path due to traffic or weather but in approach procedures ATC is sending me to  different  direction not following STAR. In this case either I follow the ATC instructions or ignore them.

Can somebody recommend me the best way how to handle with ATC?

Thx

Dezi

The default ATC does not recognize SIDS and STARS. You can fly the procedure and ignore ATC, or just disregard the procedure and follow ATC (which is what would happen in the real world if ATC redirects you).  There are add on ATC programs which do recognize SIDS/STARS and that may be a good option for you.

there are few other atc addons - including PROATCX, VOX, RADAR CONTACT - most of them have either a user guide or free demo pre-purchase to help you understand what they do & how plus support forums to review.

be mindful of options like:

  • server or client install & hence sound cards needed & how any key input works
  • need for extra voices (tts)
  • speech recognition use / need
  • more suited to class b airspace procedures or general aviation.
  • availability of airac updates
  • plan inputs
  • glossy extras such as moving maps
  • compatability with other addons - weather, fscrew, mce, pfpx etc
  • importantly (?) compatability with ai traffic addons

of course, vatsim online may suit.

for now, cheers

Thanks guys for tips. I have studied some of them. Really interesting and intending to buy one of them seriously.

Vadriver mentioned an option like: speech recognition use/need and need for extra voices. What does it mean? Is user/pilot  talking with ATC by voice as in reality?

Is there an option to comunicate by text options? I am not english native speaker (as you may be noticed) and sometimes I have problems to understand all commands especially when the voice is not clear

thx

Hi...

I use the old tried but true Radar Contact but use it with another $10.00 voice recognition/control app called Voice Attack - it works quite well and I conduct entire flights without pressing a key to interact with ATC... Voice Attack acts as my virtual copilot on aircraft certified for two pilot operation as well... Assists with button presses and control operation... It also has the ability to speak to you via the MS Speech engine (upgraded my voices with high quality ones from Cereproc) - adds a whole new layer of immersion for me... Slick piece of kit...

Regards,

Scott

briefly (& I hope others will add)

  • there are 2 "types" of payware atc programs, those where you the pilot flying can optionally speak directly using speech recognition (eg vox) & those initiating comms by key/button press (proatcx), the later being mostly as a co-pilot / pnf (thus more suited to class a&b airspace planes)
  • for ai pilot, co-pilot & controllers voices, you have / need extra & expensive tts voices (some 32bit, others 64bit) to reasonably populate the airwaves (vox, p2a) whereas others use included and / or user recorderd sound files (proatcx, pf3).

I would recommend trying the vox demo in the first, not because I am saying it's the best for you or anyone but it gives a good introduction to the above options as a way forward in your "studies".

hope this helps.

for now, cheers

Getting back to the original post "Flt Pln vs ATC",   It has been mentioned about ignoring the ATC and continuing with Flt Pln... wou ld this be the same as "cancel IFR?

If one would simply ignore ATC you would contantly get diections from ATC until they canceled for you.
