If you're talking about the default X-Plane flight model vs the default flight models of other sims, then I'd agree with you. However, when it comes to add-ons I don't think that the X-Plane flight model is necessarily any better than that in aircraft from the likes of A2A or RealAir (to name just two). People seem to be impressed by X-Plane's constant slight instability, saying that it's much more realistic than FSX and P3D but real aircraft rarely move around that much except in turbulent weather (32 years experience as a professional pilot). Similarly, ground handling has never been very realistic. It also has a number of important features which Laminar has been promising to fix (or incorporate) for years but are still not there - better AI, decent ATC and seasonal textures, for example. Don't get be wrong, I'm not saying that X-plane 11 is bad, just that, like the other available sims, it's still far from perfect and I consider it not so much an improvement as an alternative.

Yes, it's still being developed, but then so are P3D, AFS2 and FSW. Whilst FSX has not officially been updated for years, that role has now effectively been taken on by 3rd-party developers. No one in its early days could possibly have imagined the quality of add-ons that are being produced for it today, especially given its 32bit limitations.
