No Low/Mid-Level Clouds

Recommended Posts

Hello, I've run into an issue where I have no low/mid-level clouds, even when the METAR says there should be some.  I do have higher level (cirrus) clouds.  At first I thought this was an ASv4 issue, but then I tried using the Rex Sky Force weather engine and had the same issue.  Even creating custom weather inside P3dv4 with no weather engine running results in no low/mid clouds.  I've opened a ticket with Hifi and it's now with the development team, but after doing more experimenting I'm thinking the issue may be bigger than ASv4.

I've deleted my shaders multiple times and have reinstalled ASv4.  I first noticed this issue after I installed Sky Force though I've been doing a lot of night flying lately so I can't concretely say the issue only started after installing sky force.

I had been using ASv4, ASCA and ENVTEX previously.  Now I'm using ASv4, ASCA/ENVTEX for sky texture, and Sky Force for cloud rendering/textures.

Thanks for any assistance.

Delete your cloud.fx and run the repair for your P3D client. It should take less than two minutes to fix. I had run into the same issue yesterday.

That may be the fix but what is the cause? If this happened to all right after installing SF, it's something that should be reported to the  guys at REX so they can look at it. Although I would think it would be very noticeable.

It isn’t a REX issue that I’ve noticed. It happens when certain edits are made to the cloud.fx file, which I don’t think REX touches. It happened to me right after I made changes through PTA, which I think is the culprit. Deleting it and repairing the Client fixes the issue very easily.

Are you using the Thopat preset? I have had similar

I find messing with the cloud dawn/dusk brightness numbers breaks the no 3 cloud directional lighting custom tweak. When this appears in red on the PTA log, i end up with zero low level clouds

maybe not the same problem, just saying

I deleted the clouds.fx, repaired the P3D client and I have clouds again!  Thanks very much.

As an aside, now that I'm seeing it for the first time ASv4 + Rex Sky Force look great together.

This is probably a stupid question, but how do you repair the P3D V4.1 client?

Open your control panel and go to “uninstall programs”. Scroll down to your client, select, and there should be an option to repair once highlighted.

It's funny that "modify" is greyed out as an option for "Prepared v4 Academic Client" for me - isn't that the way you're supposed to do it?

I can repair "Prepared v4 Academic", (file just above it) though.

That is odd that it is grayed out for you. I have the option to modify on all four. Worst case, I think you can run your client installer from the P3D zip file and it should repair the issue.

I did it by downloading the client file and running the repair function through that (right click the file and select repair).

Using a non-P3Dv4 PTA preset will cause your lower clouds to disappear , as it has custom cloud tweaks that are not compatible...

Restore the P3Dv4 cliënt ( un- cliënt ) and use a V4 compatible preset
