Synch Capt and FO Course selector

Recommended Posts

In the PMDG 737 NGX, is it possible to synchronise the captain and FO's course selector, so they both inc/DEC together?.

The reason I ask is I have a Saitek multi panel, which allows me to set the captain side course setting, then to change FO's for ILS landing etc, I have to use the mouse to change the course in FO side to match the captains.

Which is a pain, if FO synchronises to captains, it will be easy, I can use only the panel.

Thanks

Do not believe that there is such an option (without being in front of the sim now). The only sync is for the baro. If there is nothing mentioned on the introduction document or on the FMC options then there is none.

I think there is an option to do that via LINDA in the 737 module, bad news is i was unable to make it work. Not a big deal i use the shift on a rotary encoder to Switch from captain to FO.

Hi,

Just in case, you don't necessarily have to have both Nav receivers and courses set to the ILS frequency and course to perform an ILS approach.

You only need it for ILS cat II and cat III which I find to be quite rare actually (may depend where you fly though).

If flying a Cat I, just set the captain's side.

Interesting, is this how pilots do it in the real world?  I'm with the OP on this, and I do exactly what they do with the instrument panel/FO mouse.  I know I started by doing it the way you described, but then started setting both NAV1 & 2 plus both course selectors because I figured that's what they did in the real world

I don't know how real pilots do. Only that it is not required for ILS cat I.

I'm not a pilot but I don't set the second nav receiver on the ILS frequency for cat I, I'm used to setting it rather to VOR when it can help for the approach or the go-around.

I use SPAD.next for the SaiSaitek Panel, have asked in their forum if there is a fix to synchronise or even a shift function to switch to FO course selector.

Have not heard back yet.

In the real world, yes both pilots will set the course and ILS. Exceptions are if there is no co-located DME and you need to use the VOR/DME as part of a procedural. A few airports in Germany do not have co-located DME so the PM will leave the VOR frequency up to give the DME.

I used to think not having a DME hold facility was weird. Then I remembered there's more 737s than any other type out there, so normal is relative...

There is an option in the NGX' PMDG Settings in the CDU to set the Course automatically when capturing the localizer. Not sure how they called it and I can't look it up now as I'm not at home. I don't know the logic with that Saitek is interacting with the airplane, but if you use this option, the FO's side should be set at least.
