Stutters revisited...and another solution!?

Yikes, those words alone make me shiver...!

Hahahaha ...

Just went back to no AM for P3D after days using AM 1365.

With a detailed airport no AM gives about 0.5 fps more ...

And I use the FSPS Booster 2018 Live to set the FTFF.  I use different values , depending on the arrival airport .

Eg : AS Frankfurt + FTX Germany + heavy weather —> 60% ~ 0.4

Eg Justsim Nice + France VFR PACA 1 + fair weather —> 70% ~ 0.3

And I use a locked framerate of 20 + Vsync + TB . Monitors 60 hrrz

And looks and feels so good

But every system is different ...

I never tweak anything, and my 4 year old middle of the road Desktop runs P3D V 3.4 smooth as silk, with all kinds of add ons running. Don't understand why so many have problems.

Same here. I pretty much just fly these days...

I wonder how the FPS are for those guys using "unlimited/vsync on" in a heavy scenario? I mean, I get nice FPS and little to no stuttering using unlimited FPS as well, but as soon as I fly in an area with heavy airports, I get a less smooth experience with unlimited FPS. Now, with vsync on, as far as I know you FPS are always reduced to 30 as soon as you do not reach 60FPS. Might simply be the case that you basically introduced a frame limit of 30FPS with turning vsync on, no? Or do you guys really have constant FPS above 60? And what happens, if your FPS drop below 30? Will vsync then not reduce it to 15FPS automatically? 15FPS would be definitely not enough for me for a pleasant experience...

I have my 4K TV at 25HZ instead of 30 or 60HZ with unlimited FPS/VSYNC on and sometimes TB on. That meens that the FPS is kept at the monitor refreshrate if possible . As long as you manage the FPS above this refreshrate its really smooth.

If not its a stutter situation.

I think in theory the FPS would be cut in half (60/30 - /30/15 - /25/12,5) but that is not the case on my system mostly. Cant remember why though.

Thanks

Ah, I remember, it is the triple buffering preventing that FPS are cut in half when using vsync. Must be the reason then...

No tweak in the .cfg, no Nvidia Inspector, just Unlimited FPS, VSync and TB ON in P3D settings menu, and monitor refresh rate at 30Hz. That is my perfect combination for P3D V4.1 in terms of stutters prevention.

Ok, now I understand. 30Hz for my monitor is no option, this would hurt my eyes and for all other games it would be a pain in the ... And switching the monitor refresh rate each time I fire up P3D is also not very handy... So, I will try this once on my rig and see if there is any improvement and compare my FPS.

I agree - as long as you can keep the 30 fps. I can keep it in most, but not all situations. Try the LA basin or EGLL with heavy AI traffic. Then you have the choice between lowering settings or accepting some stuttering (not really heavy in my case, but certainly not as fluent as with the 30 fps).

Otherwise it's certainly a matter of your eyes/brain if 30 Hz are sufficient. My old eyes are compatible with 30 Hz.

Kind regards, Michael

For sure at EGLL on Vatsim and in some other particular areas I must accept some stuttering, but as you also said, they are not so heavy, and during the day, with no dynamic lighting they are very minor......but most of the times, even on the ground and with other traffic, the sim is very smooth....some airports performs way better than others but there is nothing we can do about that: simply some developers are better than others...

There is a small freeware tool, called HRC, which allows you to change monitor refresh rate with just one click, provided your monitor supports that refresh rate. Me too, I only use 30 Hz for Flight Simming, but switching from 60 hz to 30 hz before starting P3D is really matter of 1 second...and the difference in terms of smoothness is huge....

I bought the Booster, but got no time to study it yet. Can't it work changing values automatically according to the preset FPS in it?

If people wonder about FTFF then have a watch.

IMO if you pc can handle unlimited FPS and you choose to Limit them. Then without question you should use this tweak.

0,01 is what I use.

Just in case, to be 100% clear:

If I set Unlimited FPS in P3D that does not mean I'll run P3D at unlimited FPS yet. There's a different mechanism in P3D whereas "Unlimited" FPS can be limited by internal VSYNC On. VSYNC On in its turn will coordintate the resulting FPS with the the Horizontal frequencу of your monitor. So it's good to have a 20-30-60Hz capable monitor. It will eventually produce 20-30-60 FPS accordingly.

But soon as we move that FPS slider in P3D from Unlimited to ANYthing else P3D gfx engine begins to work in a different way, that requires some additional overhead.

Therefore limiting FPS by using Unlimited+VSYNC ON+Mon.refresh 30Hz (or 20, or 25) should normally be the most efficient performance wise.

Just to make sure we are on the same page.

Thanks.

Correct.

But Everyone has to find what works for them.

I use VSYNC ON and TB ON and FPS locked @ 25

my screen refresh is 120

120 divided by 5 = 24. But since you never get what you lock to I set 25 so the FPS shows 24.8-24.9 hence 25 to = 24.

Locking takes out the "should" or any other "could" from the equation. FTFF set to 0.01 is the same as unlimited.

But it does not matter if VSYNC ON +unlimited give you a silky smooth stutter free sim don't change it. If its doesn't then you have options.

I also seen no need to change the value since if you get perfect texture loading  the from 0.01? why any need to change it. No where do I see any need since my FPS locked is set well below what I could run if I wished to. I give P3D head room. That's the key. Like Vic he has a much better PC than me and locks at 20 FPS.
