"P3D has stopped working"

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I originally posted this over for the nice people at the iFly forums, thinking it might be an issue with their 747.  But the same thing happened for me with the PMDG 777...

P3D "stops working" in the same place each time, near the FASSA waypoint. AppCrashView reports the problem as "A heap has been corrupted".

I was told "0xc0000374 issues are caused by misconfigured system files. 0xc0000374 usually happen when the computer's registry system overloads with to much data, or when certain system files become missing or broken."

I tried a clean install of my video drivers, but didn't work.

Here's the AppCrashView report, if that helps:

Daniel,

Do you have an Ai Traffic package? If so turned it to 0% and see if the problem persists.

I’ve had this type of problem before and because I was able to give a precise position of my aircraft with its heading and UT time the Ai author was able to identify the Ai responsible. It was a corrupted texture.

Hi Ray,

Thanks for your answer.

I have UT Live installed, and it does seem to happen at the same spot during (roughly) the same time.  What package did you have?  Perhaps I can find the same fix?

Cheers,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Save a flight a few miles before the point where the crashes occur. That will give you a consistent test scenario. Try it with your Ai at the usual % and if it crashes then try it again without any Ai. If it doesn't crash then it points to a corrupt Ai aircraft.

My problem was a few years ago with a different version of MyTraffic but because it was 100% reproducible it helped the Ai author identify the problem aircraft.

Somewhere over northern Quebec, Canada.  Around the area of the FASSA waypoint - sometimes a little before, sometimes after.

I too get 100% percent consistent crashes by there. Only thing that worked was to put the plane into slew mode and go past the affected area (maybe before it fully loaded?).

Too bad, because I love flying over northern Quebec!

That’s circumventing the problem rather than trying to find the fault. Many years ago in FS98 I was getting crashes to the SE of Seattle. I saved a flight and slewed towards the problem area from all four directions. I noted the lat/Lon just before the crash and it formed a rectangle.

The only Addon I had in that area was UTX USA. I turned off each option in turn. The culprit was “show streams” which you might think at 30,000ft wouldn’t  cause a problem but it did. Left that option off and the crashes were cured.

Sometimes these problems can be quite obscure but you need to look at what scenery you have in that area and that could be the issue however unlikely it seems.

Do you happen to have Ultimate Traffic Live installed?

I'm not sure - Windows 10 kind of does what it wants regardless of what I want it to do.

I have Windows 10 64 bit Home (build 15063.726).  Does that indicate whether I do or not?

Thanks,

Daniel

I think we have a CTD Bermuda Triangle up there, northern Quebec, Labrador, and Greenland.  There’s been multiple threads on here about repeatable crashes in those areas but to my knowledge no one has yet been able to pinpoint what’s causing them.

I don’t. I have updated to Windows 10 1709, however.

The reason I asked is that since updating win10 to 1709, my P3D CTD on loading any aircraft, addon or default apparently.  I was going to uninstall and reinstall the client to see if that fixes it - but apparently v4.2 is inbound very shortly so I may wait for that...
