January 28, 20188 yr The GTN GPS does not load. I keep getting the following error when I launch XPlane 10.51r2 (build 105101 64 bit). "Installation of GTN trainer Failed. Unable to find Windows registry entry for Install location." I'm running windows 10 Home edition. I have uninstalled and re-installed the Reality XP GTN 650/750 for X-Plane 64/32 software according to the instructions and uninstalled and reinstalled the Garmin GTN/GDU PC Trainer and it continues to fail. The X-Plane runs fine. I have also found the installation location for the GPS(s) and that runs by itself but not in Simulator. All I get with I launch XPlane is an outline for two GTN 650 GPSs (GTN 1 and GTN 2). When I click on "Enable/Disable Plugins" I get a pop up showing Plugin "rxpGTN" with an enabled check mark. If uncheck it an enable it again I get two errors messages with the message I stated above. The outlines for both GPS units is black although when I clock on the knobs, I get the usual curved arrows but noting else happens. Clicking on "Plugin Admin" in XPlane gives me the following: (2) rxpGTN (Enabled) C:\XPlane/X-Plane/Resources/plugins/rxpGTN/64/win.xpl Signature: RealityXP.GTN Reality XP GTN Simulation (X-Plane) This is a binary file and it present in my directory. Does anyone know a solution for this problem? Thanks! Lloyd

January 29, 20188 yr Hi, This error message comes from the GTN Trainer itself. It means there is a missing registry entry in HKLM: "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Trainers" or "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Garmin\GTN Trainer" depending on the trainer version. Most likely it is because you are running the simulator as admin, which makes X-Plane and all the loaded plugins (not just ours) to fail reading normal registry, because when running as admin, Windows redirects the registry lookup differently. Can you please confirm?
February 2, 20188 yr Author Thanks for your reply. I am running the program as administrator. I also trying starting XPlane using the 32bit mode and got the same results. Searched the registry for the entry you stated but did not find it. I then did a search and found the following: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders In this sections I found the location of the Garmin trainers listed as C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers (plural) (Also found ...\Trainers\GTN\ and ...\Trainers\GTN\bin also ...\Trainers\GTN\DirectX9.0c\ . In the same registry I found a listing for C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainer (singular) witn sub folders named ...\Tranier\GTN ...\Tranier\GTN \sys ...\Tranier\GTN \sys\sim When I go to the location C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\GTN\bin I find a "GTN Simulator.exe". When I try to launch that program I the the error message. The Date Modified shows 10/3/2017 which is probably the older version of the program. When I go to the location C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\GTN Trainer\GTN\sys\sim and click on the "GTN Simulator.exe", it launches the simulator (This file is dated 7/14/2016) I went to the paths referred to in the registry for the Garmin trainers and re-named them "OLD" (I later deleted them). I then edited the registry and removed the referenced paths to the Garmin Trainer installations. I then re-ran the reality XP installation. This required installing the Garmin trainer. I found the link broken for the "most recent version" of the program so I downloaded the "previous" version of the program from the Garmin site (link provided in the instructions). I completed the installation for reality XP but found that if I checked the box to download and install the Trainer the Reality XP installation would not proceed (got a 404 error). I tried again but left the download checkbox empty and the Reality XP installation completed. I then started the simulator and the Garmin GPS units worked. The only difference I see is that when I click on the "MSG" key it does not recognize me as owning a license and refers me to the settings to fix the problem. Other than that, it's working. Thanks for your help. Lloyd
February 2, 20188 yr Hi, First and foremost: do not run anything as admin, it is not necessary and will make programs fail. The registry the trainer is looking for is not the same weather you run as admin or not. It is properly setup during trainer install, but it won't find it when running as admin because Windows redirects the read to some place else depending. Having said this, you seem to be proficient in reg editing and if this runs then it is fine, however, I'd think you might just want to review your entire Trainer installation at some point in time. NB: the error 404 is because the trainer has just been updated yesterday to a new version, and we are working on it. 7 hours ago, LloydW said: The only difference I see is that when I click on the "MSG" key it does not recognize me as owning a license and refers me to the settings to fix the problem. Other than that, it's working. What is the message displayed then?
