New PC Build Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I'm looking at the following components for my new PC build - am I on the right track here? Recommendations on lower cost but equivalent options welcome.

  • INTEL 8700K @ 4.9GHZ BOXED PROCESSOR DELIDDED

  • Samsung 960 PRO Series - 512GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD

  • ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero Z370 ATX Motherboard

  • Corsair Dominator Platinum Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz C15 Desktop Memory Kit

Thanks

Mark

Nice system.  That is top of the line!  You have the upgraded components that are in my system (see my signature).  You did not mention a video card but they are expensive right now.  DDR4 Dram is expensive too but that is a nice kit.  If you have an old video card, would use that until the prices of the video cards drop.

Thanks.

Yes, I'm will use my GTX680 for the time being.

Oooooof!  That's gonna bottleneck your proposed system pretty badly.  However I'm with Jim, now is a TERRIBLE time to buy a new GPU...  prices are double (or more) what you normally would pay.

Yeah mine is just dying in XP11 though....and you might have seen my cry for used ddr3 ram in this forum...  P3D and XP are crushing my system... XP is the worst.

I keep watching and reading.... Especially P3D progress.  And flying FSX like I have flown no other simulator since ATP:Flight Assignment!  Smooth, reliable, all sorts of enhancements since inception.  Logging hours flying, not tweaking.  Only drag chute recently was adapting the birds in my hangar to RXP GTN and RXP GNS v2, and those transitions were well worth it.

Only area where I still have performance issues is New York City, where I have way too much going on in terms of add-on scenery.  Sad part of that is that I find little reason to fly there.  So I'm good!

Essentially half the current prices.  However, with cryptocurrency plunging in value at this time, there may be less demand for high-end cards.  I certainly hope so since I am also on the verge of a new build.

I built a new system in December and I ended up spending a little more then I planned. About CAD$3000. I didn't want to bottle neck my system as whats the point of that?  But I thought to my self I only get a new PC every 3-4 years so really its not that expensive when I use it daily during that time. I don't smoke or drink and that would cost me far more.

I paid $799 for one from Newegg on December 13th. The same card is now $1399.
