What is the current best processor for P3D v4 without budget consideration?

Recommended Posts

I have an Intel Core I7-3970X CPU @ 3.50 GHZ, but with the latest ORBX UK a framerate from 8fpm average with P3d V4
I like to update the processor but have no idea what could be the best for P3d V4. Any advice?

Go back to the beginning of this thread and read all the different views..

Short answer: Any processor that will run at 4.5 GHz or better..

BTW.. also consider your GPU / RAM / motherboard.. they all matter.

Would there be any point of upgrading 4790K@4.5GHz (no HT) to 8700K for 450€? Right now I can't go with the whole new machine and my 4790K is on match to my RTX 2080 Ti. So I'm exploring upgrade paths that wouldn't also involve buying a new mobo and a new RAM. Would there be any point in doing that or would the gains be marginal and I should just wait until I can get the whole new machine?

What mobo supports both a 4790k (LGA 1150 socket) and a 8700k (LGA 1151)?

I guess I wanted this to work so bad that at that moment I mistakenly thought 4790k is also on 1151 😞 Apparently, I'll have to go with the new machine option sometime in the future than.

Don't worry history tells us there will be another CPU some time in the future 2020 Intel are working on a new chip set as yet unnamed may be a new pin out and MB.

Intel thrives on planned obsolescence. 1151 socketed mobos have different chip sets and each mobo won't support every 1151 socketed CPU. Ask anybody with a 6700k CPU about how many newer 1151 CPUs will work with their 1151 mobo.

Just imagine if nVidia kept changing the GPU PCIe pin-outs so every time that you wanted to upgrade your video card, you also needed a new mobo. The limited amount of compatibility issues associated with GPUs is probably one factor that led game designers to shift to GPU-friendly code.

The next rumoured Intel leak CPU is not 1151 chip but 1200 read into that what you want like as I say rumoured.

Well, the rumour surrounding the new family of Comet Lake CPUs is that they will be on a new LGA1159 socket, all with 14nm+++ architecture and at the following performance and price points:

CPU Base clock Boost (single core) Boost (all cores) Cores
/Threads
TDP Cache Price
Core i3-10100 3.7GHz 4.4GHZ 4.2GHZ 4/8 65W 7MB $129
Core i3-10300 3.8GHZ 4.5GHZ 4.3GHZ 4/8 62W 9MB $149
Core i3-10320 4.0GHZ 4.7GHZ 4.5GHZ 4/8 91W 9MB $159
Core i3-10350K 4.1GHZ 4.8GHZ 4.6GHZ 4/8 91W 9MB $179
Core i5-10400 3.0GHZ 4.4GHZ 4.2GHZ 6/12 65W 12MB $179
Core i5-10500 3.1GHZ 4.6GHZ 4.4GHZ 6/12 65W 12MB $199
Core i5-10600 3.2GHZ 4.7GHZ 4.6GHZ 6/12 65W 12MB $229
Core i5-10600K 3.7GHz 4.9GHZ 4.7GHZ 6/12 95W 12MB $269
Core i7-10700 3.1GHZ 4.9GHZ 4.6GHZ 8/16 65W 16MB $339
Core i7-10700K 3.6GHZ 5.1GHZ 4.8GHZ 8/16 95W 16MB $389
Core i9-10800F 2.7GHZ 5.0GHZ 4.2GHZ 10/20 65W 20MB $409
Core i9-10900F 3.2GHZ 5.1GHZ 4.4GHZ 10/20 95W 20MB $449
Core i9-10900KF 3.4GHZ 5.2GHZ 4.6GHZ 10/20 105W 20MB $499

Take this with a huge mound of salt.
AMD is in big trouble if these numbers are correct.

I for one, don't believe that the new i9-10900KF with 2 extra cores and 200Mhz single thread boost is going to be pitched at the same price as an I9-9900K.

But that's the rumour.

Those "leaked" Comet Lake numbers have been debunked already.  The fake chart those numbers come from had the Dollar sign after the number (no English speaker would ever do this) yet the chart was presented in English.  The naming scheme is utterly stupid. There's no such thing as the 14nm+++ process.  There are multiple TDPs all stacked on top of each other, something Intel has never done.  Intel no longer quotes all-core turbo numbers either.

Intel will have something next year, but it won't be this.

I think there is something clear here: if you mainly Game(sim) and some times do productivity works, Go with Intel, If not then AMD is pure choice.

AMD is catching up very quickly. Today's reviews are showing about 5 points difference with Intel ahead in single thread.  Those "roughly" 5 points equals to... very likely nothing in the real-world. So when people say Intel is the best or the top CPU, honestly , it means little to nothing now.  For P3D to react or "feel" any difference you need to count by the Ghz.  So 4.5 to 5.1, hardly any difference to P3D. However, bring a 5.5 Ghz or 6Ghz CPU, then yes, there will be a good performance increase.

Obviously Intel and AMD can build 6Ghz CPU as of long ago, but that's the point, milk their way up to that point, so the filthy rich can continue to be filthy rich.

Since they all plug into a motherboard with the same class of components, they will be all hitting that limit around the same time. Also they have the same class GPUs. What's left is how well the i/o, CPU and memory control are utilised. With complex software like P3D, the combination of concurrent single thread and multi core performance may be a better way to test those systems.
