Autopilot in NAV mode won't track a GPS course

Hello again,

I had to reorganize some files in my computer and reinstalled FS9 with RXP GNS 530, but now, the A/P system in NAV mode won't track a GPS course/approach either with a FS9 or add-ons aircraft. Here is some findings; 

In the configuration panel/panel instruments, all the options are checked in.

-By leaving the CDI button of the RXP GNS set to VLOC, the A/P system in NAV mode will intercept & track the localizer and/or ILS accurately.

-With the CDI button of the RXP GNS  set to GPS, and steering the aircraft with the A/P system in HDG mode, the CDI of the HSI deflect as expected. (Message such as "Set course to.." or "Next DTK..." appears as usual).

I found some previous post somewhat similar to this one. Is there some configuration file with which I could compare with what I have? Interesting learning curve though.

(Note:)   I tried some flights with  A/P systems in NAV mode coupled to the original FS9 GPS only, no problems.

The autopilot should be in NAV mode, not HDG mode, to track the GNS course..

When you first start up the GNS and get to the Test Page, does the HSI deflect the needles correctly?

If not, you have to make make some changes in the gns ini file..

Hi Bert,

At start up, in the GNS test page (Instrument panel self-test); when I turn the course adjust of the HSI, the OBS digital read-out on the GNS screen move accordingly.

Lets say I fly inbound to an airport with A/P in HDG mode, activate a GNSS approach to an IWP then switch to NAV mode, nothing happens. (on the other hand, if I go back to HDG mode, I can guide the airplane to track the GPS course legs as the CDI of the HSI is serviceable.)

On the test page, the HSI needles should deflect as per the wording on the test page. Without you turning anything... do they?

A screenshot might help..

Also in the RealityXP.GNS.ini file for the airplane, do you have:

Did another trial;

A -Yes, the HSI needles deflect as per the wording on the test page, but the OBS indicate 340 as I compared my rxp self-test page with the genuine Garmin 400W-500W Trainer which shows OBS at 000 

B- My airplane  RXP GNS.ini file match what you mentioned.

I'll uninstall/ re-install the GNS 530 and go from there.

OK, let us know!

My experience is that if the HSI shows the correct deflections on the test page, the airplane will fly the GPS cours, complete with RNAV approaches.

Hi,

The A/P link has no tie to the HSI link, they are handled separately.

You're using FS9, can you please post the content of the RXP logs (see User's Manual for file/path).

Usually, is it normal to exit FS9 following a change in either configuration panel, even when it doesn't ask to "reboot".?

The 'REBOOT' button is only when changing device options requiring rebooting the device, like changing TCAD on/off, not FltSim!

As for the log files, they seem correct. 

You might want to try toggle master device off + select accept, then toggle master device on + select accept again, as only the master device controls the A/P and there could be a bug there?

Hello Jean-Luc,

I've done some test as you mentioned in your reply, still the same snag.

Lately . when I launch FS9, I get the error message; Module:C:\Windows\Gm2500\GM2500F32.dll  Run-time check failure #3- the variable "Iret" is being used without being defined" . 

I use to click on "Ignore" and carry on with FS9 as usual. Can this bother the RXP GNS 530?.

I was thinking for some time to reset my computer HDD to it's original setting and carry on from there.

few month ago i had same issues.

fs9.1, and 53 waas v1. all work but no gps autopilot....

i have change the sim1.dll  and this was ok (magic.)

if you want i can send you this file.

for my probleme:

Is simconnect is mandatory To GNS530 v2 work in P3D v4 (new PC) w10 and only one installation P3D?

I am having the same problem. Just flew an LPV approach manually because the GPS will not lock with the Autopilot. The Gps functioned like it should. The autopilot control head work as is should too but would not couple with the GPS. I am an ATP rated pilot and fly with this system every week so I know where the switches and knobs should be. The GPS in not linking up with the autopilot. See my post for more detail. Need Help solving this problem.... Where is Tech Support????

-P3D V4.1 on a fresh and new PC

-W10 install this month.

-gns530 v2.

all seem work fine in the gauge.

but no effect with PA in nav/appr mode and GPS green actif.

Is SIMCONNECT manual install is mandatory To GNS530 v2 work in P3D v4 (new PC) w10 and only one installation P3D?

with an other PC friend i had the same issues, gns530 v1, w7, fs9.1, and it was sim1.dll that i have been during installation' Garmin error. i have changing by another one and it was good after that.

I am having the same problem as Gilles but running legacy FSX/Acceleration. I uninstalled the Sim and did a fresh install. Installed the RealityXp  GPS 530. It will not connect to the Autopilot. I did noticed while flying to an airport and executing an RNAV approach manually that the flight director is dead center all the way (Cross Hairs not showing left or right of course and glideslope info showing level) while the CDI is showing accurate information including Glideslope info. The GPS is not linking up to the flight director for some odd reason... Hence not hooking up to the Autopilot. John

Hi All,

I have the same problem with the Autopilot not coupled with the 430. I use FSX (Gold incl. Acc and SP2). It is a clean install. Reality XP newest Version was installed just today. Clean Logs. HSI / VOR is reacting to GNS Flightplan or "Direct-To" but AP is doing nothing when enabled in NAV mode. Tries this with the Stock C172, Money and 3rd Party Cirrus.. The Cirrus shows on the PFD no distance, HDG or anything.I need the Garmin to practice for my IR Flight Training (Real World). It is fantastic, but the not working Autopilot drives me crazy. Please assist.

Behavior of the AP is: AP levels off when activated. HDG Mode works. When restoring old Panel and use FSX internal AP GPS following works. Also Tracking in VLOC/VOR Mode works. So it is some problem with Reality XP. I consider a reinstall of the whole installation.

So the question here is likely this?  Has anyone who has installed the most recent GNS updates had success with coupling the autopilot?  And if so, in which aircraft, specifically.   I am not able to pitch in here as I have not updated since 12/20/17.  Will not update at this point until this develops further. 

I am on my Caribbean Trek with a GNS equipped Carenado Grand Caravan and just must stay functional with so many new and unfamiliar airports in my itinerary.

Fails exactly the same way with the original database. I will try to reinstall. Maybe the problem is somewhere on my side. I works for others....
