DCS is amazing!

Recommended Posts

Decided to take a few min to configure my controls this time... hehe

Got the P51 off the ground without too much trouble, but she's a touchy little thing!

The lighting (physical aircraft lighting) is a little hokey sorry.  I only found the lights switches at the end after landing.  And I have the heat blur and dof enabled, not sure I like it.

First shots/flight from DCS 2.6 - this is all free to download, etc.  I installed the sim because I'm REALLY interested in the F18 coming out.

Nice shots, there.

I've been pretty much DCS only since 2.5 came out. It's a nice change and looks really nice.

It is still in open beta and I've had trouble with crashes. Crashing may have been fixed with latest update...not sure.

Still, a nice change and the missions are fun.

Hi Ryan,

Nice set - it sure takes a steady hand to set her down on the pavement... I have yet to master her...

Scott

I've not found the Mustang to be a problem....The Spitfire? That's a whole new ball game! One day...

Hi Ron,

Thanks - I was always skeptical of the Mustang FDE - I always thought the Mustang was more one of the light models - maybe I’ll have to eat some Bangers and Mash then jump in the Spit ? I’m really waiting for the Corsair...

Regards,

Scott

Tail dragger's  are tough on take off with those huge torqued up engines,I believe You can Lock the tail wheel on the Mustang by pulling your flight stick back on takeoff, that helps..... The Spit though:laugh: She's a bit different all together

You need to do a "Rudder Pedal Dance" small inputs on the right/left pedal to keep her straight till you reach take-off speed.,She's Beauty and Grace once airborne

Thanks for the tip....  since you have a lot of experience what aircraft is a good payware start?  The harrier looks cool but I'm not really into all the Russian stuff.

Taking off is a c.r.a.p shoot (must stop mixing with Yanks ) Usually NOT a pretty sight. As you say, in the air she's gorgeous! Landing her, just when you think you've got it nailed she'll turn round and bite yo' a.s.s.

I haven't flown the P-51D for quite a while, I've been obsessed by the Spitfire and I was right, the Mustang is a sweetheart compared. I'd forgotten how to start it so that took some time but having fired her up, she taxis politely and as long as you don't throw all the coals on in one go, she takes of in a well mannered fashion. Landing using the military break proved to be enjoyable. I'll take her out again and buy her a bunch of red roses for Valentines day.

Sorry Spitfire, I'm putting you up on jacks until you're fixed.

Brilliant screen shots by the way. Sorry for the hijack.

Agreed, DCS is an amazing simulator and fantastic for combat simulations.  To see how flawed (bright) P3D night is, try flying a night combat mission in DCS.  That's how night is supposed to be...dark, disorienting, and mostly black with just a few lights.

But that aside, DCS just feels more immersive.  I can't pin everything it is, but little things.  The A-10C has been my baby and you can just feel her getting lighter as speed builds on the takeoff roll for one example.
