P3D V4.2 Not Starting

Recommended Posts

Having loaded up the default flight all was okay. Upon closing P3D and restarting it with the PMDG 747 at FlightBeams KSFO, the sim will just shut down. It doesn't happen at KSFO, it happens at several other airfields as well.

The issue is, that nothing shows up in Event Viewer, okay I did get KERNAL Base errors to begin with, but I have since fixed those issues - however the ongoing issue is being unable to load up the PMDG 747. The 777 works perfectly fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the 747 without any fix. I am scratching my head...

If you're getting kernel errors, it sounds like something is borked in your operating system.  Before you get too far down the road of a buildup on P3D v4.2, you might want to reconsider rebuillding your OS platform first.  And do that with your PC running at stock speeds...no overclocking during installs to avoid risking corruption that can bite you later.

As I said, I sorted the Kernel Base error issue. Windows update and a couple driver updates fixed the issue.

Any time I have serious hardware or OS issues, I am always on the edge of my seat wondering if it corrupted my system, or was caused by something already corrupted in the system.  So my advice still stands...once I see something like blue screens or serious OS faults (like kernel errors), I am suspicious.  I generally start with a couple passes of Memtest86+ to make sure I don't have a RAM module going bad (have had that happen more than a couple times in 25 years of simming) and then if I see any other anomalous unexplained behaviour (like a quality add-on shutting down for no apparent reason) then I go ugly early and rebuild from the foundation up.

Your call, of course, but it seems to me there's ample reason to be a bit distrustful of your system stability as it stands right now.

I have noticed upon further examination of the Event Viewer that the vss service is shutting down due to idle timeout. Could that have anything to do with the sim crashing as soon as I load the 747? I have run SFC and it has found no integrity violations.
