February 16, 20188 yr Haha, too late. The new FSlabs bus v231 runs like a charme. I have landed and now I am having my beer, which cooled down in the fridge during the upgrade process 🍺 Regards, Chris -- PC: Intel 13900K, Gigabyte Geforce RTX 4090, 64GB Fury Beast DDR5 RAM; Display: Varjo Aero VR
February 16, 20188 yr Upside: Bug fixes (lots of them, some very important ones) Water=Ultra performance benefits for nVidia 10 series GPUs (updated to CUDA 8 Libraries) Dynamic Lights performance improvements (this will vary pending add-on airport used and your GPU) Additions to SDK/SimConnect that will be used in some current and future add-ons Additional compatibility added for Win10 VR performance improvementsDownside: At this point not much, many content providers have already updated with just a few left pending. You need understand the entire context of those folks reporting problems ... I don't doubt they're having problems but there are A LOT of people not having problems. For example I'm not having any issues with my SimConnect menus and GSX is working perfectly, so your mileage may vary. But without knowing everything about someone else's problem and system configuration, I wouldn't assume you're going to have the same problem. I'd recommend that you do the 4.2 Client only install, if you decide you don't like 4.2 it's very simple to go back to 4.1 using the same process (I've done this many times). There is nothing in the scenery and content installers for V4.2 I needed, so I only did the client install (on my main FS PC, not my other test PCs). Cheers, Rob.
February 17, 20188 yr Rob got it right. There are plenty of users who have been flight simming for years and decades and know how to keep their computers "healthy" and running correctly. No P3D upgrade is going to fix an issue being caused by a faulty computer to begin with. Updating P3D from 4.1 to 4.2 should not be "scary" because you are afraid you will break something. If you are scared about doing it, you simply don't understand how it is designed to work. You can ALWAYS "go back" to a previous Client by deleting the new Client upgrade if it "causes you problems" and re-installing the previous Client version. You should at least TRY it to see if it WILL improve performance for YOU. The Content and Scenery upgrades require that you understand a bit more about things that could get corrupted you already have installed, but again that is a knowledge and understanding issue. If you don't understand what each of the 3 .msi files WILL do to your sim, you need to take the time to LEARN it. I cringe every time I see a post by someone who says' "Well I'm just gonna do a complete reinstall of my entire Windows OS and then the same with P3D. That's the only way it works for me!" That post is a true indication of how much the user does NOT know about how to keep their computer as a whole, let alone P3D, running correctly. Respectfully submitted. Been doing it for 3 decades now (along with professional IT for over 26 years) and have never had to reinstall my complete OS to do a flight sim upgrade. Rick Ryan
February 17, 20188 yr OK, new to P3D and need to know. If I do the upgrade install, am I going to have to reinstall my add-ons after spending many hours installing and finally getting my sim where I want. AS2016, many airports, ORBYX and PMDG upgrades? I would hate to replay that grief. I'm getting the impression a lot of things aren't working right until developers fix them for the update. Thanks, Vic Vic green

Thanks, Vic Vic I think you answered the question yourself! If you have your sim the way you want it then stay with it! My 4.1 is where I want it, so unless I absolutely require the "upgrade" I won't upgrade. Three things that would invite me to require an upgrade from 4.1? If the holy Grail is found, totally smooth flight, everywhere from LAX to the Sahara desert? A future add on that has overwhelmingly tempting features that only the latest P3d can run? I buy a new PC with Win 10 (I am on Win 7) and need to upgrade? Minor bug fixes, of bugs that I don't experience and VR improvements that I don't need (no VR headset ) will not be enough to entice me to install 4.2. Just my opinion, I have been "flight simming" since the C64...some thirty odd years.. Best regards.
February 17, 20188 yr On the other side, there is no reason not to update. Be brave! I did the Client and Content update and downloaded all the patches and updates for my addons. Everything works as before and I am ready for the future. It does not take that long... Only some things have to be considered: 1. for A2A aircrafts it may be nevessary to remove the last backslash in the addon.cfg 2. FSUIPC works with 5.121 or 5.122 3. if Content is updated, you need to run FTX Central to restore the autogen files. EZDOK, FTX products, ASP4, MCE, LoL, Envtex, Envshade, GSX, all aircrafts (PMDG, Realair, Carenado) work as before... That‘s on a Win 8 machine. February 17, 20188 yr Is there a link somewhere to FSUIPC 5.121? I went to Pete's forum, but couldn't find it. Jacek G. Ryzen 5800X3D | Asus RTX4090 OC | 64gb DDR4 3600 | Asus ROG Strix X570E | HX1000w | Fractal Design Torrent RGB | AOC AGON 49' Curved QHD |
