What is the best place to put the LClass and afcad ??

Featured Replies

When I unzip an Airport Scenery to be installed, I get three file envelopes in some of them :Scenery and texture (for the Airport Scenery), and Landclass.Normally I only get scenery and texture which are used to register the scenery innto FS9. What do I do with the BGL in the land class folder?Put it inside the scenery folder with the rest of the bgl's or where is the best place??How about the AFCADS????What happens then when you install a Land Class (FS Genesis) for the whole USA??, and where do I put this (lost the instructions)Would really appreciate your comments.Edmundo CardenasCaracas, Venezuela

You're going to get 500 different answers - so I'll be first and be shot down soon.I've found that FS9 elminates 90% of the issues with layers in the Scenery.cfg file if we follow the examples in the SDK and in FS.I put ALL my AFCAD files in Addon SceneryScenery - we've been able to demonstrate and document that FS does not properly layer the visuals with some addon scenery when the AFCAD file is in the same folder as the scenery.Files which remove default airport data, remove default airports/ change the airport designator, exclude objects, flatten areas, add approaches, etc - go in Scenery]GenericScenery as per the BGLComp SDK.I never modify the default APnnnnn.bgl files - and never allow any modified files on my computer. I use an airport header file in the SceneryWorldScenery folder to modify the airport elevation.I put ALL my landclass files in SceneryGenericScenery folder and have not had any problems even thought that folder has a texture folder. However, if I put a landclass file elsewhere - I have to worry about layers in the scenery.cfg and a texture folder corrupting the data. But I must say that many people report excellent results by creating a Landclass folder in the Addon Scenery folder - (Addon SceneryLandclassScenery) without a texture folder and placing all their landclass in that location.

I tend to like to keep what I install separated so I can turn it on/off at will or uninstall it later. So usually for each scenery I install, it gets its own directory in Addon Scenery, plus its own landclass directory also under Addon Scenery. I have not noticed any issues with keeping AFCADs in the directory of the addon airport, so that's where I keep them. I know many others suggest putting AFCAD's in Addon SceneryScenery, however. I do not know where they put Addon Scenery in their library list, though. It is important to manage this well, however. You do not want to end up with duplicate runways/start points as this could cause CTD's. However, it is not necessarily true that having multiple AFCAD's for an airport is a bad thing. AFCADs do not always contain the same data. Sometimes, an AFCAD file might just contain, say, taxiway signs. This would not conflict with an AFCAD that contains runway data.I edit my own FL***.bgl files. I have not yet installed an airport which needed an edited AP***.bgl file. I'd probably edit it myself if I came across one.I have a separate library which is third from the bottom in the library listing after Default Terrain and Default Scenery for airport altitude correction header AFCADs.According to Holger and several other researchers, mesh is loaded in reverse order. So I created a new library for the default High res mesh, and that is the first item in the library list. Then I created libraries for my other mesh in reverse order of complexity, Higest res last, and these follow the default mesh library in the list.Landclass is NOT loaded in reverse order. I order my landclass libraries so they are before my scenery libraries. If you click on the link below and select "Microsoft Flight Simulator" on the left (I should probably change the name of that menu item), I have a page which describes exactly how I install scenery and order my library list for things like Ultimate Terrain, etc.. It works well for me.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)
