You can compare it with the new PMDG 747 vs the old queen. However, 737 & 777 are exactly the same thing!! An no other company charged us like...PMDG was special regarding to this topic. Fine :-) We accept that, but it is not true at all that it is the same story with the others. 

 

BTT: I love the new Maddog. I would take this one and you will have the challenge. After familiarization, you can activate failures  

I owned and enjoyed the Maddog in FSX for many years. Although the systems emulation and performance were superb, the VC of that version was very poor. I used the 2D panel most of the time.

The VC of the new MaddogX by contrast is stunningly good - one of the best I’ve ever seen, and a major change from the original FSX version. A lot of work must have gone into creating it, and for me, it’s well worth the price to have it in P3DV4

The crj is more prevalent than the maddog and 717 in the real world obviously, but the aerosoft version still has a lot of flaws.  I think your $50 are better well spent on the md80 or 717.

Maybe you should also consider the aerosoft a320 family which should be released very soon for v4!? 

Well it is not as deeply simulated(and it does not want to be) like the pmdg, but with normal procedure and work flow it gets the job done to make you feel like beeing in the cockpit. Also the price will be around 50€ for the whole family which i think is a bargain. They also mentioned on their forum that they are considering to give a rebate on the (in the future released) a330 for owners of the A320 family

What was interesting was that the PMDG 737 was initially installable and useable in P3D, but in an update the installer was made to recognize and not run in P3D. Not many remember that.

Quick note on PMDG pricing. They were originally definite that there would be no P3D support. A bunch of us pleaded for an NGX, RSR responded that they would make one but that it would be targetted at pros - so out of our league, probably.

So even though the PMDG birds are expensive, I'm still grateful that they exist as an option.

Whilst they're expensive, they've provided me with good value - I fly the 737 more than everything else combined, and the QOTSII gets a bit of air time also.

So for your question re: regional jets:

1. Get the NGX, it's a must-have. Despite its age, it's still a great plane, much more practical than the big PMDG Boeings for what you want.

2. Get the Maddog. It's the new classic. I noted comments earlier about lack of automation. I don't know how to fly an MD-80, but I just managed - sitting in the cockpit in VR - to program the FMC, take off, and then fly in LNAV/VNAV mode to another country. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the VNAV bring the plane down exactly where it needed to be, I find a lot of other planes overshoot on descent. So autoflight in the Maddog is actually pretty easy, and more sophisticated than the half-analogue cockpit might make you think!

3. I have the Aerosoft CRJ. Never flown it much. I think it's a class down from the two planes above.  I do note two supporters of this plane earlier in the thread, though, so I'll likely give it another try.

4. I don't have the TFDi 717. The 717 is a great regional, I fly as a pax on them IRL quite a bit. Waiting for it to come out of beta for v4, and I'm also a little nervous about frame rates as some seem to have problems (not just in this thread).

5. FSL A320. As noted by a previous poster, they've conquered fly by wire, very impressive systems depth too. Currently not installed on my system due to recent...ahem...events. I'll probably give FSL another chance and reinstall the new version. Probably.

6. Q400 - you said you had that. Great plane. Best frame rates and smoothness out of all of the above.

7. PMDG QOTS2. I don't really fly long routes very often, but this is a great plane. So I occasionally fill it up with just a little bit of fuel, and use it as a regional jet!

8. JustFlight planes. These guys have a bunch of older regional jets that are v4 compatible. I bought a few in the pre-christmas sales. Not as good as the planes above, but they've simulated some interesting aircraft.

Obviously you haven't kept up with what happened after the latest update. Several users had crashes to desktops and several days later no answer.

And the CRJ is almost there in terms of testing that LNAV with a mind of its own...we are giving lots of feedback to the developer so hopefully soon. He is a very responsive chap and willing to listen.

So LNAV is really buggy?  Or people are just expecting pmdg airliners for 50 bucks?
