Use of an ATC Add-on

Recommended Posts

I've been doing my research on various ATC add-ons and I was curious how many of you actually fly with ATC. I've been having a lot of fun just learning the ins and outs of PFPX, uploading flight plans into my new jets, loading flight plans directly into the FMS, etc. Then I noticed in Froogle's latest "fully loaded" he wasn't using an ATC (I think his old standby was/is RC). The thought occurred to me that I might not even need an ATC add-on but wanted to get some feedback on if you feel that it  significantly enhances the overall sim experience.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I think that it adds to the immersion factor and usually use it unless I'm just testing something or goofing around.  I'm now using VoxATC and it's quite good.

I used VoxATC for quite a while but for me now, the ultimate is Pilot2ATC.  Either one of them beats the socks off of the built in ATC.

Vatsim. Nothing as good as talking to a real person on the other end of the radio. Gets a little lonely sometimes if there isn't a lot of traffic/ATC on. But just imagine how much better it would be if all the simmers who used computer-generated ATC used Vatsim instead.

LiveATC or nothing.

If I'm in an area with LiveATC.net coverage, I try to find a RW flight that will do the route I want to do and try and listen out for it on ground / tower / departure frequencies. Likewise on the descent, I try to find a flight of the same airline with the same destination and attempt to follow on approach / tower / ground.

It is complicated and often I drop out of trying to follow the RW tx, but with the live traffic program I'm using, when it all works, nothing is comparable!

+1 for VoxATC.  It also creates AI traffic that it controls which adds another level of realism.  It's also easier on the FPS than the stock AI traffic.  It stumbles once and a while in VFR handing off to destination tower, but in general is very good.

I tried them all extensively, including pay by the month  ATC, Vatsim, and just about every ATC program out there.  etc I finally am back to Pro ATC X and will never switch again. I got my pilots license and flew for years in one of the busiest ATC environments in the world, and PATC is the only program that makes me feel like I am flying in the real world. .

Got very tired of flying on Unicomm with Vatsim. Controllers nowhere to be found.
