Sluggish reaction to control input

Recommended Posts

First of all: wonderful bird!

Only "problem" I have: Aircraft reaction to aileron and elevator joystick input seems to be very sluggish compared to all other planes I'm used to (PMDG 737, TFDI 717 FSL A320). Even maxing out sensitivity of all axes doesn't change much.

Is this a problem on my side or ist this the way it is meant to be? Thanks for feedback!

It's possible that you have an actual hardware problem, but the MD-82 is a pretty sluggish airplane at slow speeds. This is very noticeable on final approach with flaps 40, as the aircraft requires pretty significant control inputs unlike most other aircraft.

The ailerons and elevator are not powered in any way. They are aerodynamically operated via servo tabs. In the real aircraft you need pretty large control inputs to operate the ailerons, and I don’t think you will find a MD pilot who have not ran out of elevator control during landing at least once.

So, yes, inngeneral you need larger inputs to the ailerons, but less so with the elevator. I use force feedback controls myself, and ailerons are a bit difficult to control with these. I have yet not tried with the FFB disconnected.
