Flight1 King Air B200 v2 G1000 weird FPS drop

Featured Replies

Hey,

Can anyone else recreate this issue in the Flight1 King Air B200 with it’s MFD?

You can clearly see a massive drop in the frame rate when I move to the map page (80 FPS to 45 FPS). I am on an 8700k fully loaded and 1080ti. And clearly I am getting 75+ FPS before I switch to the page. I did a video with the copilot PFD off as well. And trust me with “smudges” turned off it does the same. Cluttered or decluttered it does the same.

The map is zoomed all the way in. If I zoom out the frames pick up by about 10-12. All in all it’s an instant 30ish FPS drop when that map is displayed.

Another important note is that with the system on, and on other MFD pages, I get back to normal, so it’s not a “the G1000 is intensive” issue.

On that note there is no CPU or GPU increase when I turn it on.

If I switch to a different page, taxi and fly no FPS drop either.  No other issues with other aircraft so it only happens when that map page is displayed.

I can’t figure out what would be doing it.

Thanks

Could be because your switching between a textual page that requires next to no GPU/CPU to rendering a 2D moving map that requires continuous update to be accurate. Other addon vendors have settings to reduce update rate on these kinds of displays like PMDG 737 and Majestic Q400 for this reason.

To be clear it's not because of increased GPU or CPU usage but the syncing of the framerates of the display.

Well that certainly makes a lot of sense. Is there much I can do about it?

I posted over in the Flight1 forums.  Seems like it’s an add on issue more than a “my setup” issue from what you are saying.

One would think Flight1 and their perceived quality wouldn’t miss something like this. Or is it not that easy to do?

I run at 30Hz with vsync on and I haven't noticed any issues while in the VC, regardless of zoom levels or page selection.

However, my frame rates are halved when I use the popups.  I had no issues in P3Dv3.

Yes, and the only reason I noticed it was because I had problems at busy airports where I usually don't when it finally dropped below 30 FPS.  Flying the tutorials around Alaska even with ORBX you probably won't notice if you are locked at 30hz.

The pop-ups are even worse from what I have found so it probably takes those being opened for your sim to finally go below 30 FPS.  I only unlocked my FPS to test what was going on.

Displaying the afcad is resource intensive. Does it rely on a build of your scenery and if so have you run an updated program? Do not own this airplane (Weather radar is a requirement to me) but to get the most of the RAAS system in PMDG you run MakeRunways from Pete Downson's forum. Opening it up and dropping your fps I am not surprised. I am interested to see PMDG and if they found a way to make it not impact performance at all, I bet they have done that.

MakeRunways was already ran and the file in my system. I updated the AIRAC with Navigraph as well. Done the declutter. I don’t think it’s a resource issue.

I don’t expect to see no performance drop. However, 30 FPS seems a little excessive too me and more like a glitch of sorts then what is intended.

Can only the developers fix this? Or anything on my end to try?

Are you running the external frame rate limiter in Nvidia Inspector ? This has been known to cause issues with pop up windows.

Cheers

Are you running only Orbx regions or some addon airports also? You can try to look for afcad files duplicated in different scenery folders. In every Orbx region there are afcads for all the airports. But if you have any other addon airports for that region they also have afcad files. It might be a possibility that this trips up the display of the airport in the gauge.

I use all the Orbx regions for America. And I just purchased ksea, that means I go into the Orbx pnw 05 scenery folder, and do a search for all files that have ksea in them. I add .off so it ends .bgl.off to deactivate them. I re-installed an addon airport from Orbx, kpsp, and renamed all files that have kpsp in the name in the Orbx sca 05 scenery folder.

Finally you should use a program like Addon Organizer to layer Orbx below all addon airports. I set in the Orbx settings the placeholder the location of the FTX scenery.cfg entry below my first airport entry in the scenery.cfg list
