FSX Acceleration Fails to Load 3d Party Scenery

Recommended Posts

Greetings;

Fairly 'new' at this kind of issue.  Though somewhat confident in 'tech'; I typically turn off services not needed for FSX or REX to run. then 'monitor' usage via MS Process Explorer; thereby enabling more RAM and 'resources' to accommodate my old system.  I should add that typically twice a month I conduct 'PC MAINTENANCE', turning all services back on and conduct all  updates for Windows, Java, Malwarebytes, NORTON ANTIVIRUS, then Defrag my two HDDs.  I've also attempted to clear 'cache' by deleting those in 'TEMP', %TEMP%.  I'm now concerned this last (clearing the 'cache') has something to do with the issue at hand, as the issue seemed to manifest after the last 'cache clearing episode', upon rebooting my WIN7 OS.

While loading 3d party scenery into my FSX Scenery Library the 'progress bar' never got past 6% and though it didn't CTD, neither did it ever give a message of any kind.  The Event viewer 'properties' consistently showed  I initially got a 'simprop.dll' error.  Not knowing which 'prop' aircraft might've caused this, I proceeded and deleted ALL my 'payware and freeware' prop aircraft.  This didn't help!...  Opting to 'Repair', I followed instructions that included Accelerator... Upon rebooting FSX, the program worked fine for flights that used only 'native' prop aircraft (no payware!) and native FSX scenery.  Upon attempting to load my 'payware' MegaSceneryEarth, I once again experienced the identical issue with the 'progress bar' stopping at 6% and no 'messages'.  I've NOT yet attempted to load any 'prop' payware or freeware aircraft.  Hoping I don't have to reinstall everything!...

Please note my most recent  'AppCrashView' and help me deduce this issue.  Thank you for your anticipated assistance.

Welcome to the AVSIM forums, Sean:biggrin:  Sorry it has to start off with a problem with your Sim.  Your "Faulting Module" of Simprop.dll should be your guide in troubleshooting.  Check out the AVSIM CTD guide for help.

I don't want to sound too discouraging but several months ago I tried doing a Repair to my FSX without first uninstalling SP1 and SP2.  That also gave me the Simprop.dll faulting module.  The only cure I found was to do a full uninstall of FSX and then reinstall the whole shebang.

Thank you 'Carliearon' for your 'welcome'.

Though I'm  not necessarily 'happy' with what you suggested in the Re-install, but am grateful that you at least responded!... The information contained in my initial 'submission' was, in fact, gotten from the 'AVSIM Crash-to-Desktop guide... In fact I have it sitting on my 'desktop' as a ready resource... Not to suggest your post would be 'discouraging', I'm hopeful others might view that 'AppCrash' report and find a ray of hope for a solution to avoid the 'uninstall' and reinstall of over 18TB... This is my first and foremost but 'grave' concern! :)   Again, THANK YOU for your response!

The faulting module was simprop.dll.  The probable solution(s) for a simprop.dll error is on page 37 and has no relationship whatsoever with 'props'.  Since you have Acceleration installed, probably you'll just have to uninstall Acceleration and then reinstall it (do not repair).  Use the Add/Remove Program (not to worry, it will not uninstall FSX or any of your aircraft or addons).  Make sure you install with Administrative Privileges.  If this does not work, there are other suggestions in the guide on page 37.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim Young; THANK YOU for your response.  I probably need to 're-read' the pdf... I do appreciate that you caught my meaning.. I'd hate to have to work reinstalling so much software.  So.. If I understand you correctly, then I having again experienced the identical issue after all I did, you would suggest I DO NOT REPAIR FSX and simply uninstall then REINSTALL the Accelerator?  This is the 'ray of hope' I was waiting on!... I will again wait for a 'confirmation' that I understood your conclusion correctly.. Thank so very much!

Jim Young; I did just now go back and read p37 as to those 'solutions' with the 'simprop.dll'... I will move on that at this time.. Thank you again for bringing this overlooked detail to my attention!

I just reread pages 36 and 37 about the Simprop.dll error.  I tried those things too before my reinstall.  I also do not have Acceleration.

I had this error once too and recall just uninstalling Acceleration and reinstalling.  I suspect if you have SP2, you just need to uninstall/reinstall that.  I think it might be the fact you installed FSX with Admin privileges and not SP2 or Acceleration.

Well things aren't always what they may appear to be... I in fact, did uninstall the Accelerator (I'm currently not aware if the original 'Gold Edition' came with the SP2, but the included literature for the Aceleration that accompanied the 'Deluxe' FSX in the box set, supposedly 'covered' anything that the 'Deluxe' didn't have (at the time of production).  In any event, having uninstalled the Acceleration, I did reboot the FSX and it appeared to work fine.

After verifying I now had a functional flight simulator, I then attempted to reintroduce scenery and low and behold, it repeated the very same issue all over again.. Being somewhat frustrated, I had to 'walk away' before I did something to exacerbate a potential 'save'; I might come to regret later.  So... some days later I'm somewhat 'refreshed' and open minded to a hopeful solution.  I've gone back and proceeded with the other possibilities, and am now going to repeat the Even Log, and Crash App to verify what they have to contribute...  I'm now presuming I have to go back in and conduct another 'FSX Repair' before I can proceed to other listed issues.  Why?  This morning I attempted to run FSX in the hope it might somehow miraculously rewrite the cfg files... no.. so it would seem another repair is in order...

Feel like I'm writing the 'saga' of some lost soul... Anyway, I down loaded the Scenery Configuration Editor and that enabled me to 'uncheck' the scenery I had added to my library.  So, at this point, I have the basic 'Deluxe' Box Set of FSX, and no Accelertion has yet been reinstalled.

Following the suggestions, moving down to the FSX log.bin file supposedly found in 'My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files.  There doesn't appear to be one there, or under Programs X86 nor under the user\~\App\Roaming....  Could I have some how unintentionally deleted this log.bin file when I cleaned out my TEMP and %temp% folders to clear the 'cache' for better performance?  I wouldn't think this would be found in a 'temporary' state once FSX was closed... More questions than solutions.. sorry!

The log.bin file will be rebuilt if deleted or renamed.  If you cannot find it where it is supposed to be installed when FSX is installed, click on C:\ in your Windows Explorer and type logbook.bin in the search bar.

Having problems understanding your grammar but it appears you uninstalled Acceleration.  You restarted FSX (without Acceleration) and it started up with no problems.

Add-on scenery requires Acceleration OR SP1 and SP2 installed.  It states on the box or description for the add-on scenery whether it is compatible with FSX Deluxe alone.  If NOT, it will also state something like FSX/SP2 or FSX/Acceleration must be installed.

As I stated above, you should try to uninstall/reinstall Acceleration or SP2 (I did not know which version you had installed; you now indicate the Gold Edition which includes Acceleration; you cannot have both SP2 and Acceleration installed at the same time).  You now indicate you did that and ran FSX and it ran great.  You should now reinstall Acceleration.  I told you to uninstall/reinstall Acceleration as it is a known fix for your issue.  This means, when I went around the Internet looking for solutions to anyone getting the simprop.dll error, most fixed the problem by uninstalling/reinstalling Acceleration.

Since the add-on scenery you are trying to install crashes FSX without Acceleration and with Acceleration installed, the scenery is not compatible.  It must have been made for FS2004 also known as FS9.  Must of the scenery made for FS9 does not work in FSX as the texture files were developed using another process.  If the product states it is compatible with FSX/Acceleration, then my "solution" did not work.  We then have to find another solution because there is no known solution that works for everyone when you get this error.  An investigation has to be conducted to try to determine why the FSX/Acceleration compatible scenery will not work after you install it.

One other solution was as above.  A corrupted logbook.bin.  The logbook maintains a record of all of your flights ever taken while using FSX.  Some people like to keep those records and simply get the logbook repaired.  Some others, like me, just delete it when I get a crash and when I restart FSX, the default is installed in the Document|Flight Simulator X Files folder.  You stated when you uninstalled Acceleration and ran FSX, it started up normally.  Then means the logbook.bin is installed properly.  Don't look for it.  You are wasting your time as you verified (to me) the logbook is installed.  Just reinstall Acceleration, run FSX and make sure it is running and then try to reinstall the scenery IF it is compatible with FSX/Acceleration.

Upon attempting to load my 'payware' MegaSceneryEarth, I once again experienced the identical issue with the 'progress bar' stopping at 6% and no 'messages'.

Sorry for missing you were trying to install MegaSceneryEarth.  It is normal for your progress bar to appear as if it stopped at 6%.  Just let it run.  It will eventually continue to load or crash.  If it crashes, then there must be something wrong with the MSE scenery as, at 6%, it is loading that scenery into your sim.  If there is something wrong with the scenery files, it will crash.  I would suggest one or more of the textures for the scenery is corrupt.

If you run FSX without the MSE scenery being enabled in the scenery library, does FSX/Acceleration start up?  If so, then it is the MSE scenery at fault and one or more of the files are corrupt.  When you installed the scenery, did you properly activate it so it could generate a code in your registry?  I don't know all of their security but they do have security implemented so that the program cannot be simply installed on one computer and then copied on another computer.

Jim Young; Thank you for your 'patience'.. Sorry that my 'grammar' has you confused... The box set I have is labeled Flight Simulator X 'GOLD EDITION'; it includes the 'Flight Simulator X Deluxe' (2 DVD)  and the 'Acceleration Expansion Pack' (1 DVD); as a set. I mention this hopefully to clear up any 'confusion' I've caused earlier..

 Will again reinstall Acceleration..

Attempted several times to reinstall the 'Acceleration Expansion Package'.. 'No dice' as they say... Each effort (5X) came back with the 'Error Message': Cyclic Redundancy Check.

To be sure, I've NOT reinstalled it earlier, I did check through the Control Panel... I still have a 'functional flight simulator...
