SSD exclusively for P3d 4.2

Recommended Posts

Hello. Now I have  my p3d in a Samsung 850 Pro SSD 256 GB read 520 GB/s and  write 500 GB/s and  it’s almost ful.

i7 6700k 4,2 GHZ 32GB Ram GTX 1080ti

I ordered the Samsung 960 Pro M.2 with read 3500 MB/s and write 3200 MB/s

Is that new SSD worth for Better loading both p3d and graphics for the sim?

Please Advise, thanks

George

Theoretically, yes but in practice I very much doubt that.

I'm assuming your new 960 is not a 250GB drive again or you're spending money unnecessarily.

Except for a few very disk-intensive (non sim) tasks, you're usually talking about saving fractions of a second with the faster SSDs, particularly as the file sizes are generally not massive. For me, the big increase in cost is not worth it for the barely noticeable improvement in everyday performance.

My ssd for the OS rocks.

A dedicated ssd for p3d mainly helps by speeding load times up markedly.

For OS win 10 64bit is separate SSD 256 GB The New Samsung 960 M.2 512 GB is exclusively for the P3D 4.2 and it’s high number of sceneries. No other games or programs running on this PC. Thought while faster 6x the previous Samsung 850, should help in faster graphics loading.

Thank you any way

George

On my PC D drive SSD for P3Dv4 takes up 282GB and that`s not including chaseplane AS4 and some other addons not inside P3D folder.

Faster graphics loading?  Not really.  P3D, like FSX before it, does look-ahead pre-caching of the scenery files, so any delays in loading during flight are mostly due to the time needed to process and push the objects out to the GPU, since they've already been fetched from storage into RAM well before reaching the point where they're first rendered.  An SSD helps at initial program load when tens of thousands of small files are accessed, but there is negligible benefit from an SSD (or a faster one) once the sim is running, with one notable exception being the loading of large photoscenery files.

Regards

Thank you so much friends, now I understand. One more question, why while using Ezdok and changing the view from VC to external I see the textures to reload? Or while taking off and look back I see the Airport scenery to reload?

Any solution?

An M2 drive being capable of so much faster speeds is much better off as your OS drive. P3d will not gain anything over what you have now.
