Lost my GNS 750 Touch

Recommended Posts

Some time ago, my XP 11 had a hiccup (don't know why) and I had to reinstall it.  Ever since then, my GNS 750 2-D screen is blank.  It makes no difference what aircraft I happen to be flying; it's just blank.  I have both the F1 GNS 750 for P3D and the RXP version for X-Plane. Which means I have the Garmin Trainer data base for both GPS's.  The Garmin Trainer and the 750 for P3D  both work but I can't figure out why it will no longer work in X-Plane.  Any ideas?

You're trying to use the GTN Trainer 6.41.1 with an older RXP GTN version. Please make sure to update the RXP GTN to the latest version!

Not sure what's going on here but it appears that I am downloading and installing version 2.4.15 and then every time I start XP, ant then check the log file afterward, it shows that I'm running 2.4.12.  I'm assuming that the file I am downloading from F1 is the correct file?  Now I exceeded my download limit so I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow.  Gotta love F1...although I'll never know why.

First, the only place to download the Genuine Reality XP GTN Touch is from Reality XP. The other vendor you are referring to is only our e-commerce procurement partner, not to be confused with Reality XP nor www.reality-xp.com

Now, if it shows 2.4.12, it is because it is 2.4.12 running! Please make sure to select the X-Plane versions you'd like to install to when running the installer, and to cross check the path to X-Plane.exe shown during installation.

In case the files are locked and prevent installation, manually delete C:\ProgramData\Reality XP\rxpGtnSim32.dll and rxpGtnSim64.dll. Also manually delete the XP\Resources\Plugins\RealityXP\GTN folder, prior re-installing.

Okay, when I mistakenly used the term, "F1", I was referring to their e-commerce installer and is what I've been using all along.  That thing is way more work than it's worth IMHO.  Sure wish you would rethink that system.  After every couple of downloads I have to go back to their site and reactivate something.

Anyway, it seems that I am now running the latest version but still no joy.

Hi,

We're making progress! So that others having the same issue in the future find a solution, what have you done which finally made the files install correctly?

As for the log file, it says there is a missing component in your GTN Trainer installation, or it fails to locate it for another reason.

1) Can you check C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\GTN\nonvol\sys_nand0 is present and what size it is?

2) Can you confirm you've installed the GTN Trainer 6.41.1 and not just moved its files around from a backup?

3) Can you confirm you've run the GTN Trainer 6.41.1 installer normally and not 'as admin'?

4) Can you confirm you are not using the RXP environment variables to redirect the path to the GTN trainer and the GTN trainer data, otherwise, that these are set with correct paths?

Hi Jean-Luc,

What I did was, as per your suggestion, instead of downloading the GNS 750 Touch directly from the F1 site, I downloaded it from the RXP site.  I still had to deal with the e-commerce system but I did manage to get the latest version.

BTW, a very large part of the problem I was having and the main reason I couldn't install the newest version was that, after downloading what I thought was the latest version and during the installation process, I would be asked if I wanted to, "check for updates".  Imagine that?  That's what I thought I was installing in the first place. ;)  Anyway, I would be informed that there was indeed a new version available and the version number and, "would I like to download it?".  What the heck, I guess downloading the latest version would be a good idea. ;)  So I did  that.  Unfortunately, the problem with the whole process was that, neither the file I was installing nor the "update" I thought I was getting were the latest versions and I would be right back  where I started when it was all over......go figure. ;)

Anyway, on to my currrent problem: The answer to your questions are as follows:

1. Yes, the file is present and the file size is 270337 KB.

2.I have installed the GTN Trainer 6.41.1 but I keep getting errors when I try to run it.

3. I always right click and click on "run as administrator" when installing software or software updates.  Should I NOT have done that?

4. Huh?  Not sure what you're asking here. ;)

I appreciate your help Jean-Luc.  I think we're getting closer. ;)

Thank you for the additional info.

The idea of the installer update check was in the case of reinstalling the software, to give the means to check whether there is a new version since the last time you've installed. It looks like a catch 22 situation though when using the latest installer, we'll see how to prevent this.

As for the rest, I guess this answers the main reason. What are the errors you are getting when trying to run it exactly?

Besides, please, never ever install as admin. When doing so, you bypass some system file path / registry path which are expected for the user/logon you are installing for. Thereafter, when running the installed program as user, and not as admin, the program fails to find its files / registry entries.

There is no need to install any software as admin, unless it is an admin tool/app, or there is a specific mention to install it this way because it is a system app. Most recommendations you see about installing as admin in the FS world are only because the programs/plugins/add-ons you are installing are still not fully Windows Vista+ compliant, or, vendors try to lower the support cost with a 'use-a-hammer' scenario when everything fails.

Duly noted with regard to the installation of software.  I'm still using Windows 7 and have been pretty much using the admin button since upgrading to 64 bit just to be on the safe side. ;)

With regard to the latest Trainer issue, to be honest, because I have the F1 750 for P3D, I have so many Trainers installed over the years and I'm not sure anymore as to which application is using what and what goes where.  I did download and installed GarminTrainerSetup_2100.exe  yesterday and I'm not sure where that installation installed itself.  Is this the trainer used by the RXP 750?  When I run it the panels come up but when I try to power it up I  get an error message saying an error occured  opening the Navigation Control Window and then it hangs.

I guess what I really need to know right now is which Trainer is the X-Plane version using what where exactly does it go?

Thanks again.

Hi;

I had problems with GTN getting it to work on my P3dv3.4 after a re-install.

My problem was resolved by running the simmconnect  exe's from within P3d.

Hope that helps

Brad

We're releasing the update tomorrow, and the installer now includes the SimConnect redist installer and will do it automatically for you! Thank you for the great feedback!
