Always light snow regardless of time or season

Recommended Posts

Hi. I have been using FSX for many years now with Orbix scenery. Since the beginning of this year, when it actually started snowing in real life, I can only get weather with light snow. This is regardless of time, month, season, what type of weather (real world or Orbix) or if Orbix FTX is turned on or off.

I tried deleting the config file to reset the default values but nothing changed. Short of reinstalling the whole program I don't know what to do.

Any help would be appreciated

Are you loading a saved flight, one that had snow falling?

Oh, oh!  The boss and I were dueling over your first post!  I moved you into the FSX forum.  Your question was very specific  and in the how to use AVSIM forum you may have not gotten enough exposure.

Real world weather has been pretty much hit or miss the last several months depending on if the servers get updated.

Thanks. I was not sure where to post.

It seems pretty much whathever I do. Load an old flight or start a new one.

I just loaded an old one from November that had clear weather and within a few minutes from takeoff, down came the snow. Heading west over sussex. Then when I got to Heathrow, which still had snow, it cleared and I landed at Northolt, in clear weather!

Maybe it's just the Kent/Sussex area but it certainly isn't snowing in reality.

As Jim, Mike and Charlie have asked: "What weather settings have you got set in Settings within the sim?

The option Real World Weather has become very cranky over the last few years - due to Jeppensen no longer supplying the data.

Also, if you're loading from a saved flight that had snow - the new flight will load the same time and weather that you had last time you flew - so if it was snowing then, it'll be snowing now.

Load a flight from a saved flight by all means but remember to Reset Time And Season to get you smack into the present.

Think about acquiring a Real Weather Engine - such as Active Sky or one of the very good free ones out there.

Plenty of info here at Avsim.

Try a short flight from KRSW-KMIA in Florida, shouldnt be snowing here. This is when you use real world weather?
