How to change STAR and APP in flight in P2A

Recommended Posts

Hello Dave,

Before take-off, the STAR and APP are not necessarily known in advance on the destination airfield. The active runway may change...

Currently in P2A, the STAR and APP must be pre-filled in an IFR flight plan before it is sent for clearance.
If the QFU on the destination airfield changes during flight, the APP and likely the STAR in the current flight plan must be changed.

How to make a STAR and APP change in flight in P2A ?

If you don't have "Force Pilot Runway Selection" option checked, then P2A will assess the weather shortly before the descent and assign a different STAR and Approach if needed.

If you want the map to display these new assignments, after getting them set up in your aircraft so you can fly them correctly, you can change them in the flight plan in P2A and then press the VALIDATE button.  DO NOT PRESS THE FILE button.  That will mess things up big time.

Ok , thank you Dave for the answer.

So, P2A decides whether the STAR and approach should be changed (if "Force Pilot Runway Selection" is not checked in configuration).

However the pilot may prefer another STAR and another approach than the one chosen by P2A. Is there possible in P2A ?

Once you get the Expected STAR and Appr, it may not work well to try and change it.  However, you can disconnect from P2A and reconnect.  Then FILE a new flight plan, and make initial contact with the Center controller.  As in the process for reconnecting after a crash.

This will work before you are actually cleared for descent pretty much all the time.  Once cleared for descent, it has a risk of causing some issues.

You can also "override" the STAR/Appr by requesting vectors for the approach.  That wipes out the assigned STAR and Appr and gets ATC to start vectoring you for the ILS, RNAV, etc.
