Just to add to all the theories.

I came across this post by Kyle last March 29.

and I quote "Spent the better part of my day rapid-fire troubleshooting stuff with another dev."

Is that possibly PMDG working with another dev for an "add-on" for their "New Simulator"? Perhaps sceneries? or even add-on aircraft?

Didn’t RSR say nobody outside of PMDG knows about the mystery development?

Means maybe that they found a team to do a brand new simulator. 🙂

Hmmm interesting.. in the same post, he connected it to their secret project called PMDG Pigeonworks. Question now is PMDG Pigeonworks the same project that they would announce in June? Or a completely different project again?

EDIT:

If nobody knows about the project outside of PMDG, is it safe to rule out a brand new simulator?

It would mean that no developer has yet to work on sceneries/planes/plugins and we all know it takes a long time for them to develop from scratch. Maybe even years considering they have to learn a new SDK and development technique.

That would not bode very well for a new sim (as evidenced by the FSW's closure which I think the lack of add-ons is one contributing factor). If it really is a new sim, I believe they would have worked with at least some developers to start porting over their sceneries and planes.

This is unless the sim has excellent and up to date default scenery and default aircrafts that we don't immediately need add-ons

I think everyone’s looking way too far into this.  I just think it will be another aircraft.  If you all recall, back when the original J41 was announced, that was the test-bed aircraft in a new “line” of aircraft to be developed with all-new technology at the time.  This “line” comprised of the the J41, NGX, DC-6, 777, and 747.  So, now, this new “line” I’m assuming is just the next evolutionary step up in technology from their previous products.  It must be a big step up though.  As to what that technology may be, I have no idea.  Possibly huge strides forward in VR technology?  I’m hoping the first aircraft in this new “line” is a 757/767!

Well fellas my two cents worth, Lockheed with their 'skunk works' brought us the SR71 back in the day, so I can only assume that the pigeon works is some collaboration with Lockheed Martin for Prepar3d, an expansion for the sim in some way. Either way, aircraft, scenery or sim expansion itself it will be worth waiting for.

RSR stated "unveiling a new product line"
(A product line refers to a number of products that are related and developed by the same manufacturer).
I don't think it's software. Most add-on categories are well covered by other developers. Weather, environment, sceneries, aircrafts, etc.
RSR stated "nobody outside of PMDG has seen it, heard of it, or even been made aware that it exists".

What I think it could be is hardware. Flight Simulator hardware. Yokes, throttles, radios, etc.

There is FlyHoneycomb. According to their website distribution was to start the 1st quarter of 2018 we are now into the 2nd quarter and still yet to be released. Just a wild thought but could FlyHoneycomb be a pseudonym for PMDG? Or some other connection here? I know far fetched...

I like the thought of PMDG and Flight Sim hardware. We could really use some high quality flight control systems in the hardware category. Something tailored to the PMDG Boeing line perhaps? And maybe even release a new Boeing with this new system.

I like the big silence before posting about the upcomming releases, products and updates. The big silence tell's me every time that something realy nice is comming.

Lucky me that my holiday money is given around the date of announchement. And yes you did  it again......you made me very curious about what' s next.......

Every time i think.......i am gonna ignore it till it's there....however tension is rising again.....

Every curiouse to see what it will be.....one thing for sure......the quality will be top of the mountain as always 😀

Nothing would be more disappointing to me than hardware. There are already vendors offering $900+ yokes. I can't afford those and I wouldn't be able to afford whatever PMDG offers.

I also think its something along those lines. 737/777/747 Yoke + Throttle would be my bet. It makes perfect sense for them.

And just to inject my usual controversy, hopefully it will also be supported in XP11. 😄

There isn't enough money to be made in hardware. Not enough people out there willing to buy $500+ modules or yokes.

But there are tens of thousands of people willing to drop $200 on a new sim platform built from the ground up.

Let's just hope we don't have to fully re-buy all our aircraft.

Not sure about this. I already have P3D, XP11, DCS and AF2 stacked with thousands upon thousands of Euros in add-ons. In the long run, it would be much cheaper to buy a high quality control kit from PMDG than supporting yet another sim. What about the plugins. FSE/VATSIM/IVAO, VR support, terrain, airports? So many check-boxes to fill.

I would be very skeptical of supporting yet another platform.

I'm totally with you about the investment that sits on my SSD's, but at some point in time the cord has to be cut on FSX/P3D.

I'm thinking long term. I can envision 2 things happening:

1. Dovetail forces LM's hand with the P3D Academic License and causes a serious issue with future development.

2. PMDG develops a new sim platform and aircraft development/support will cease for any other platform.

At some point in time we might not have a choice but to start over from scratch.

Another possibility I was thinking about, could be to adopt what I would call the "Aerowinx PSX concept".
An aircraft created entirely independently of any simulator. The advantage is that it can then use P3D or XP as a visual.
I have the previous version of Psx (Ps1), I had flown over 1000 hours on this great program. At the time I used Xp, Flight Gear and so on for the visual.
Not being a programming specialist I don't know if with the progress that has been made in hardware this would represent a step forward today...?
Have an aircraft with more than 90% of the flight systems and features compatible with several simulators...Mmmm :gaul:
