Preflight Weather Forecast (flight plan route)

Recommended Posts

Hello simmers again.I am trying to find the best forecast weather site for flight planning but i have not found anything yet.I am talking about international forecasting (no us continental)

For example lets see the flight  of JAL771 from RJAA to YSSY.The flight dispatcher had to build the flight plan according to the weather due to the severe thunderstroms in the south pacific.Lets take a view :

As you can see there is some nice formation of TS east of the route moving N-NW.I am trying to find a site that you could see the forecast for the next 24h or more (loop or not) and build the route based on the weather forecast.
Yes i know noaa does a very good job but only for the US.(dont take into account the WAFS or SIGWX,i want something like CONVECTIVE zones,echo tops,radar etc)Take a look from noaa's service:

I have found some useful sites but i am not satisfied.

sites :
https://sites.google.com/site/acnetworkweather/home
https://www.metcheck.com/WEATHER/clear_air_turbulence_charts.asp
https://www.weatheronline.co.uk

(search for expert charts)

https://www.meteoblue.com/en/weather-map
http://ww1.jeppesen.com/aviation/personal/ain-weather.jsp

http://www.eldoradocountyweather.com
website has many maps but i could not see any forecast map with period from now untill one or two days forecast

Suggestions?

To be honest, you won't find it. There'd be no point. There's a reason we have dispatchers planning flights same-day, within hours of a flight (or making adjustments to the 'canned' routes that they normally use for the route to adjust for convective activity).

Have a look at a hurricane plot. The path gets wider as the path gets further out in the future. Why?

...confidence decreases as time in future increases. Convective activity is predicable only so far out.

In real life we have an APP called WSI provided by our company which provides us a number of different types of weather forecasts including one similar to the one you have shown.

like Kyle said, the dispatcher won’t care, because TS and typhoons / Hurricanes moves around. That’s why we have onboard wx Radar.

the SIGWX gives you a roughly idea of which part in the route you will need to dodge some weather.

Typhoons usually won’t affect the flight too much when cruising above FL350. However when transiting through the center of the typhoon the temperature increase significantly which you will see a marked drop in FMC REC MAX.

Therefore if your flight plan had you flying near a typhoon, make sure you have at least 1000-2000ft from REC MAX. Same goes for TS region but not as significant.

Just random. For a good world view, current, I use this:

https://earth.nullschool.net/

everything else I get from wetteronline.de for europe. America. yeah, enough sources listed.

2 days forwards in weather is.. well.. difficult

I'm old school, and have been using the NWS so long that I'd never consider anything else.  Their Aviation Weather site is hosted by a dedicated group of aviation weather specialists (Kansas City I think?) and that web site has what is labeled "Flight Folder" but is really an International Flight Folder here: https://www.aviationweather.gov/flightfolder .  Of course use of this data presumes you have some knowledge in meteorology (at least as much as required by a commercial pilot).

@ Kyle

A flight dispatcher is supposed to release the flight plan during the 1-6 hours before the sceduled flight ,right?
During that period weather may change or not.A six hour forecast should be known to him

@Victoros
Yeah i had checked it .As Driverab330 said they have WSI maps in real life.Honestly those maps i am trying to find online or similar (echo tops radar refl etc) with a vaild period at least 6h or more.I came across with this nice site check it :

http://wxcharts.eu/

It has every region except for australia and asia mainland

@downscc
Ι have seen the link you've just posted but as i described above i am not talking about sigwx or sigmets,wafs etc

Known, yes, but keep in mind that your original post said "with period from now untill one or two days forecast." Since I know that forecasts of 1-6 and 1-8 hours are readily available worldwide (and you'd linked to a few of them), my post was only really referencing the "one or two days forecast" you were referring to. You're changing the scope here: earlier, you showed you were aware of 1-6 hour sources, but couldn't find 24-48 hour sources, which I mentioned are pointless.

So...pertinent to your original scope: 24-48 hours, that data is worthless.

Thats the point where to find those forecasts even though are less than the period i had written above (yes a 24h forecast maybe was an exaggeration,my mistake) 🙂

As an advisor from Europe side, I use below sites for planning purposes;

https://www.aviationweather.gov/progchart --> i suppose that this one is the most common, which is quite useful for considering expected wx conditions for en-route phase.

https://en.sat24.com/en -->another one for esspecially useful for europe, satellite view & charts. Also forecast maps for rain, wind, cloud base etc..

http://netocc.com --> this, is a new one,  has colored significant weather charts, wind charts, also, rain & wind etc monitoring via windy. At the same time providing world wide metar & taf data (source from ADDS) and also metar&taf decoder seems useful.

Greetings,

Huseyin
